Tesla’s highly anticipated Cybertruck was set to gain Full Self-Driving (FSD) support this month, according to statements by Elon Musk. While the latest FSD v12.5 release includes Cybertruck support, it hasn’t yet been implemented due to additional testing requirements.
The Cybertruck has been seen equipped with a rooftop LiDAR, and Tesla’s AI chief has indicated that the FSD update will be rolled out in September. The truck features Tesla’s advanced AI4 hardware suite, consisting of the latest computer systems and cameras, ensuring it will be capable of running FSD 12.5 efficiently.
In the meantime, Tesla has introduced parking assistance features through the 2024.26.11 software update. Although this is not the full self-parking feature of the FSD service, it includes Tesla’s Vision Park Assist, which uses cameras rather than the older ultrasonic sensors to help with parking.
This update should be particularly beneficial for Cybertruck owners, given the vehicle’s size and parking challenges, especially in tight spaces.
Recent tests show that there are still some issues with the Vision Park Assist, such as blind spots and inaccuracies in line detection. The system also appears to be overly cautious in detecting curbs and nearby vehicles during parking maneuvers. Notably, the Cybertruck is Tesla’s only model featuring a front bumper camera specifically for parking, but the Vision Park Assist doesn’t seem to fully utilize this camera yet.
Overall, while the parking assistance features are a welcomed improvement, further refinements are anticipated to enhance the system’s performance over time.
