Casio looks set to refresh one of its most recognizable G-Shock silhouettes with a new DW-5600MNC series, rumored to arrive in Japan this March. Built on the timeless DW-5600 design, these upcoming models appear to keep the rugged, no-nonsense DNA that made the square G-Shock a legend—while adding a standout new twist that’s likely to catch the eye of collectors and everyday wearers alike.
From the early images, the watch head itself stays true to the classic formula. Expect the familiar resin bezel, the traditional four-button layout, and the standard digital display that has defined the DW-5600 family for decades. The usual toughness features also appear to remain intact, including 20 bar (200-meter) water resistance and an LED backlight—exactly the kind of practical, durable setup that makes a DW-5600 an easy daily choice.
The real talking point is the strap. Instead of the typical resin band found on most DW-5600 models, the DW-5600MNC line is said to debut a layered cloth strap with a cross-band look. The fabric shows visible texture, and the layered construction introduces contrasting inner colors that peek out along the edges, giving the watches a more fashion-forward, street-ready vibe without losing that utilitarian G-Shock feel. While the exact materials haven’t been confirmed, the straps appear thicker and more structured than the thin nylon-style options many people associate with fabric bands.
Three colorways have been spotted so far, each bringing a different personality to the same tough square case. The DW-5600MNC-7A8 is a light grey version that pops with a bright yellow inner accent visible along the top and bottom edges of the strap. The DW-5600MNC-1 goes for a stealthy, understated look, pairing a black case with a matching dark cloth band. For something bolder, the DW-5600MNC-BA2 appears to combine a dark case with a more colorful strap, featuring blue and orange accents running along the sides for a sportier, more energetic look.
Pricing and full specifications haven’t been revealed yet, and Casio hasn’t officially detailed the materials or construction of the new band. However, with the release window reportedly set for March in Japan—and early retailer listings already appearing in parts of Europe—more concrete information likely isn’t far off.
For fans of the DW-5600, the DW-5600MNC series looks like a simple but meaningful evolution: same iconic square G-Shock toughness, now paired with a layered fabric strap that changes the entire feel on the wrist. If Casio keeps the price competitive, these could become some of the most talked-about DW-5600 variants of the year.
