Casio F-91WF brings a fabric strap to the iconic F-91W, but the price is much higher
Casio’s legendary F-91W has been one of the most recognizable digital watches in the world for decades, loved for its simple design, reliable features, lightweight build, and extremely affordable price. Now, Casio is giving the classic model a fresh update with the new F-91WF series, which replaces the traditional resin strap with a woven fabric band made from recycled fibers.
After first appearing in select Asian markets earlier this month, the Casio F-91WF is now preparing for a wider release in Europe. Two versions, the F-91WF-1A and F-91WF-3A, have appeared on Casio’s official websites in several European countries, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
The F-91WF-1A comes in an all-black look, while the F-91WF-3A features an olive green strap for a more casual, outdoor-inspired style. However, the navy blue F-91WF-2A has not yet appeared in the European rollout, and it remains unclear whether that version will be introduced later.
At the moment, the two European models are listed as “coming soon,” suggesting that sales could begin within the next couple of weeks.
The biggest talking point is the price. The Casio F-91WF-1A and F-91WF-3A are priced at €39.90 in Europe. That is roughly double the price of the standard resin-strap F-91W, which remains one of the most affordable digital watches on the market.
For comparison, the classic Casio F-91W-1 with the familiar blue accent is listed at around €19.90 through Casio’s German storefront, and it can often be found for even less through major retailers. That makes the new fabric strap version a surprisingly expensive upgrade for a watch that has built much of its reputation on being inexpensive, durable, and easy to replace.
Still, the new strap could appeal to longtime fans who want a slightly more premium or comfortable take on the iconic digital watch. The fabric band is made from recycled PET fibers and is designed to be lightweight, resistant to scratches, and resistant to stains. It also gives the F-91W a more casual, lifestyle-focused look compared with the original resin strap.
Aside from the strap, the F-91WF remains very close to the classic F-91W formula. That means buyers still get the same compact case, simple digital display, practical everyday functions, and long battery life that helped make the original model so popular.
The watch measures 38.2 × 35.2 × 8.5 mm and weighs only 21 grams, making it extremely light on the wrist. The case and bezel are made from resin, while the display is protected by synthetic resin glass. The fabric ribbon strap fits wrists from 145 mm to 215 mm.
The F-91WF also keeps the familiar CR2016 battery, which Casio rates for approximately seven years of use. Core features include a 1/100-second stopwatch with a measuring capacity of 59 minutes and 59.99 seconds, elapsed time measurement, split time, and first and second place time tracking.
Other functions include a daily alarm, hourly time signal, automatic calendar, 12-hour and 24-hour time formats, and a green LED light. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds, PM indicator, date, and day. Accuracy is rated at plus or minus 30 seconds per month.
Water protection is listed as water-repellent, so while it should handle everyday splashes, it is not intended as a serious swimming or diving watch.
The Casio F-91W has always been famous because it does the basics well. It is small, dependable, easy to read, and affordable. The new Casio F-91WF keeps that identity but adds a more modern fabric strap with recycled materials, which may attract buyers looking for a more comfortable or sustainability-minded version of the classic.
However, the higher price may divide fans. For some, paying nearly twice as much for a fabric strap may feel hard to justify, especially when the standard F-91W remains widely available at a much lower price. For others, the refreshed design and recycled strap could be enough to make the F-91WF a worthwhile addition to their collection.
Casio has not yet confirmed when the F-91WF series will launch in other major markets, including the United States and the United Kingdom. But now that the European release is underway, a broader international rollout could follow soon.
For collectors, longtime fans, and anyone searching for a fresh version of one of the most iconic digital watches ever made, the Casio F-91WF is worth watching closely. It keeps the spirit of the original F-91W alive while adding a fabric strap that gives the classic design a new personality.
