Kona Unveils Rugged SUV-Inspired Mountain E-Bike Powered by Bosch Performance Line

Kona EL Kahuna Debuts as a Versatile Electric Mountain Bike for Commuting and Trail Riding

Kona has introduced its newest electric mountain bike, the EL Kahuna, bringing together commuter-friendly practicality and trail-ready performance in one capable package. Designed for riders who want an e-bike that can handle city streets during the week and dirt paths on the weekend, the EL Kahuna arrives with a strong Bosch-powered setup, long-range battery, and rugged mountain bike components.

At the heart of the Kona EL Kahuna is a Bosch Performance Line motor, delivering up to 75 Nm of torque. This gives the eMTB enough power for steep climbs, quick acceleration, and confident off-road riding. The bike can reach speeds of up to 28 mph, making it a strong option for riders looking for extra assistance on longer commutes or demanding terrain.

Power comes from a 625 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, neatly integrated into the frame. Kona says riders can get up to 85 miles, or around 140 km, of range on a single charge, depending on terrain, rider weight, assist level, and riding conditions. That makes the EL Kahuna suitable not only for short daily trips but also for longer adventures where range matters.

The bike is built around a durable 6061 aluminum frame, designed to support a maximum payload of 300 lbs, or 136 kg. This sturdy construction helps the EL Kahuna handle a mix of riding demands, from carrying gear on a commute to tackling rougher trails.

For shifting, Kona has equipped the EL Kahuna with a 10-speed MicroShift Advent drivetrain, giving riders a useful range of gears for both climbing and cruising. Up front, the bike features a 100 mm RockShox Recon Gold fork, helping smooth out bumps, roots, and uneven ground. A TranzX dropper post is also included, allowing riders to quickly adjust saddle height for improved control on descents and technical sections.

The EL Kahuna also includes a Bosch Intuvia 100 display, which provides key ride information such as speed, battery level, distance, and other essential data. This simple and practical display helps riders keep track of their trip without unnecessary distractions.

Kona has fitted the eMTB with 29 x 2.25-inch Schwalbe G-One tires, offering a balance between efficiency on pavement and grip on gravel or light trails. Braking is handled by Tektro Gemini brakes, giving the bike reliable stopping power for varied riding conditions.

Another practical advantage of the Kona EL Kahuna is its accessory compatibility. Riders can add front and rear Lezyne lights, a kickstand, and a rear rack, making the bike more useful for commuting, errands, and everyday transportation.

The Kona EL Kahuna is priced at $3,499 and is available in four frame sizes: SM, M, L, and XL. With its Bosch motor, large battery, trail-capable components, and commuter-ready design, the EL Kahuna is aimed at riders who want one electric bike that can do a bit of everything.
