Bosch has introduced a new generation of its Active Line Plus mid-drive motor, bringing more power, lower weight, and improved ride refinement to everyday e-bikes. The latest update is aimed at riders who want smooth, dependable electric assistance for commuting, city riding, leisure trips, and moderate climbs without moving into the brand’s highest-performance motor category.
The new Bosch Active Line Plus motor now delivers up to 600 watts of peak support, giving e-bikes stronger acceleration and more confidence on inclines. While European regulations keep the rated continuous power at 250 watts, the upgraded system provides a noticeable boost when extra assistance is needed. Bosch lists torque at 60 Nm, which should be more than enough for urban riding, trekking bikes, and relaxed touring routes.
One of the key improvements is the motor’s ability to increase rider input by up to 340 percent. In practical terms, that means the system can multiply pedaling effort by more than three times, helping riders maintain speed with less strain. This is especially useful when starting from traffic lights, riding into headwinds, carrying luggage, or climbing hills.
Bosch is also focusing heavily on responsiveness. A well-tuned e-bike motor is not just about raw power; it also needs to deliver assistance smoothly and predictably. The updated Active Line Plus is designed to react more naturally to pedal input, making starts easier to control and improving comfort during stop-and-go city riding. Smoother power delivery can also make the bike feel more stable, particularly at low speeds.
Another major change is the motor’s size and weight. The new Active Line Plus weighs 2.7 kilograms, making it around 500 grams lighter than the previous generation. Bosch has also reduced the motor’s overall volume by 17 percent. This gives bike manufacturers more freedom to design slimmer frames with cleaner integration, resulting in e-bikes that look less bulky and feel more balanced.
The Active Line Plus has been part of Bosch’s e-bike range since 2017 and has built a reputation as a capable all-round motor. It may not be the most powerful option in the company’s lineup, but it has long offered enough support to help e-bikes reach 25 km/h efficiently while still feeling approachable and quiet. With the latest generation, Bosch appears to be strengthening that formula rather than completely changing it.
Alongside the new motor, Bosch has also introduced the PowerTube 720 battery. With a capacity of 720 Wh and a weight of 3.9 kilograms, the battery is designed for longer rides and extended daily use. Under ideal riding conditions, Bosch says it can support a range of up to 185 kilometres. Real-world range will depend on factors such as rider weight, terrain, temperature, assistance level, tire pressure, and riding style, but the larger capacity should still appeal to commuters and touring riders who want fewer charging stops.
Bosch has also upgraded its ConnectModule, adding support for Bluetooth Low Energy-based location tracking. This can improve positioning accuracy in places where GPS signals are weak or unavailable, such as garages, basements, indoor storage rooms, and dense urban areas. For e-bike owners concerned about theft protection and recovery features, this update could be a valuable addition.
With the refreshed Active Line Plus, Bosch is targeting one of the most important segments of the e-bike market: riders who want practical performance, long range, quiet operation, and a compact design. The combination of 600 watts of peak assistance, 60 Nm of torque, a lighter motor body, improved responsiveness, and the new 720 Wh battery makes this update a strong fit for modern commuter e-bikes, trekking models, and comfortable everyday electric bicycles.
The latest Bosch Active Line Plus generation shows how quickly e-bike technology is evolving. Instead of simply chasing more power, Bosch is refining the overall riding experience with better integration, lower weight, smoother support, and smarter connectivity. For riders looking for a capable, efficient, and polished mid-drive e-bike system, this new motor generation could be one of the most appealing options in the coming wave of electric bicycles.
