Trek Unveils Long-Range Full-Suspension E-Bike Built to Go 105 km

Trek Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 debuts in Europe with carbon frame, Bosch power, and up to 105 km range

Trek has introduced its latest premium electric mountain bike in Europe, the Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5. Built for riders who want serious trail performance with the added confidence of electric assist, this new full-suspension eMTB combines a lightweight carbon frame, a powerful Bosch drive system, long-range battery capacity, and high-end components.

At the heart of the Trek Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 is an OCLV Mountain carbon frame designed to handle demanding off-road riding while keeping weight under control. The frame supports a maximum payload of up to 300 lbs, or 136 kg, making it suitable for a wide range of riders and gear setups.

Power is supplied by Bosch’s Performance Line CX mid-drive motor. This system delivers up to 750 W of peak power and 85 Nm of torque as standard, giving the bike strong climbing ability and responsive acceleration on technical terrain. Riders who want even more pulling power can tune the torque up to 120 Nm through the Bosch eBike Flow app. The motor assists up to a maximum speed of 20 mph, or 32 km/h.

The Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 uses an 800 Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, giving it impressive endurance for longer trail days. Trek says the eMTB can travel up to 105 km, or around 65 miles, on a single charge when ridden in eco mode. Actual range will depend on terrain, rider weight, assist level, weather, and riding style, but the large battery capacity should make the bike appealing to riders planning extended off-road adventures.

Trek has equipped the bike with a 12-speed wireless Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain. The system uses manual shifting, offering precise gear changes without the clutter of traditional shift cables. For braking, the Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 gets Shimano XT 4-piston brakes, providing the stopping power needed for steep descents and fast trail riding.

The suspension setup is built for aggressive mountain biking. Up front, the e-bike features a Fox 38 fork with 160 mm of travel, designed to absorb impacts from rocks, roots, drops, and rough terrain. The mixed-wheel setup includes a 29-inch front wheel for better rollover capability and a 27.5 x 2.6-inch rear tire for added agility and traction. Maxxis tires complete the trail-ready package.

Trek has also added several practical accessories, making the Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 more versatile than a typical performance-focused eMTB. The bike comes with fenders, a kickstand, a bell, a rack, a taillight, and a headlight. These additions make it more useful for everyday riding, commuting, and mixed-use adventures while still retaining its mountain bike character.

Connectivity is another key feature. Through Bluetooth and the Bosch eBike Flow app, riders can monitor important ride data such as speed, distance, and battery status from a smartphone. The bike also includes a Bosch Kiox 400C display, allowing riders to check essential information directly from the cockpit without needing to rely on a phone.

The Trek Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 is available in four frame sizes: S, M, L, and XL. In Europe, the electric mountain bike is priced at €7,749.

With its carbon construction, powerful Bosch motor, large 800 Wh battery, premium Shimano components, and full-suspension trail setup, the Trek Rail+ 9.8 Gen 5 is positioned as a high-end electric mountain bike for riders who want long range, strong climbing performance, and serious off-road capability in one refined package.
