GPT-6 Luna Begins Rolling Out to ChatGPT Free and Go Users

ChatGPT Free and Go Users Begin Receiving GPT-6 Luna in Regular Chat

OpenAI is expanding access to GPT-6 Luna for ChatGPT Free and Go users, bringing the new model beyond the desktop app and into the standard Chat tab. The rollout begins globally on October 8, following the earlier release for paid subscribers.

This update means more users will soon be able to try OpenAI’s latest generation model directly inside ChatGPT without needing a premium plan. However, availability may vary by account, so some users may see GPT-6 Luna immediately while others may need to wait until the rollout reaches them.

For paid users, OpenAI is offering different models depending on the subscription tier. Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users are getting access to GPT-6 Sol in Chat, while Free and Go users are receiving GPT-6 Luna, which appears to be the most affordable model in the new GPT-6 lineup.

What GPT-6 Luna brings to ChatGPT

GPT-6 introduces a new way for ChatGPT to present answers, called Intelligent UI. Instead of only replying with plain text, ChatGPT can now create more dynamic responses that include visuals, comparison layouts, diagrams, buttons, and interactive tools.

For example, GPT-6 may generate a side-by-side comparison when helping you choose between two products, display a diagram to explain a concept, or provide a small calculator directly inside the conversation. OpenAI has also shown examples such as bill splitters and simple games.

The goal is to make ChatGPT feel more useful and interactive, especially for tasks where text alone is not the best format. Users do not need to ask for these elements specifically. ChatGPT will decide when a visual or interactive answer is helpful and when a simple text response is enough.

Another important improvement is that GPT-6 can begin responding while it is still processing information or using tools. This means users may see an answer start sooner, with additional details added as the model continues working.

Older desktop apps will not support Intelligent UI

Not every version of ChatGPT will support the new Intelligent UI features. Older ChatGPT desktop apps for Windows and macOS are being left out, with OpenAI recommending the web version for the full experience.

Mobile users will need to make sure they are using the latest version of the ChatGPT app. If the app is outdated, some GPT-6 features may not appear or may not work as expected.

OpenAI says Intelligent UI does not have a separate usage limit. Instead, it follows the normal message and model limits of each user’s plan.

How to make ChatGPT show fewer visuals

Users who prefer a cleaner, more traditional ChatGPT experience can reduce the number of visual elements. On the web version of ChatGPT, this can be adjusted in Settings by turning off Layout and visuals.

However, this setting does not make ChatGPT fully text-only. Some visual elements may still appear when the system decides they are useful. Users can also simply tell ChatGPT to use fewer visuals or respond mostly in plain text.

Some model names are still inconsistent

OpenAI’s documentation appears to be in a transition period. Some support pages still refer to GPT-5.6 Luna as the default model for Free and Go users, including for the Think option. Meanwhile, the latest release notes specifically mention GPT-6 Luna.

OpenAI says that if GPT-6 does not appear in the model menu, it may not be available for that account yet. This suggests the rollout is staged, even though it is described as global.

For now, ChatGPT Free and Go users should keep checking the model menu in the regular Chat tab. Once GPT-6 Luna appears, they will be able to try OpenAI’s newer model with its improved response style, interactive elements, and smarter presentation options.
