Citizen Elevates Series 8: A 200m Mechanical Diver with a Striking Inner Bezel and Caliber 9051 Power

Citizen is expanding its Series 8 lineup again, and this time the brand isn’t simply changing colors or materials. The new Citizen Series 8 890 Mechanical NB6060-07A arrives as the most sport-focused, rugged option in the current Series 8 range, adding practical upgrades that make it feel purpose-built for real-world wear.

At first glance, the NB6060-07A stands out with a clean white dial paired with deep blue accents, a bold handset, and applied hour markers that give it a crisp, high-contrast look. Citizen also keeps one of the Series 8 collection’s signature design touches: a textured Japanese checkerboard pattern on the dial, with the pattern theme continuing onto the back of the strap for a cohesive finish.

The watch is housed in a 42.6mm stainless steel case with a five-piece construction. Alternating hairline and mirror finishing helps the case look refined even though this model clearly leans sporty. One of the biggest visual and functional highlights is the bidirectional rotating inner dive bezel. Instead of being turned from the outside like many dive-style watches, it’s operated smoothly via a dedicated crown at the 2 o’clock position, giving the NB6060-07A a more technical, instrument-like feel. A subtle date window sits at 3 o’clock, keeping the overall layout clean.

Flip the watch over and you’ll find a sapphire exhibition caseback that puts the movement on display. Inside is Citizen’s in-house Caliber 9051 automatic movement, running at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve. Citizen also lists magnetic resistance up to 16,000 A/m, a useful bonus for anyone who wears their watch daily around electronics and magnetic closures.

Where this model really separates itself from other newly announced Series 8 releases is in its more capable, sport-ready spec sheet. The NB6060-07A comes with 200 meters of water resistance and switches from a steel bracelet to a lightweight polyurethane strap. That change makes a noticeable difference on the wrist: despite its tougher positioning, the watch weighs just 122g. For comparison, the metal-bracelet alternatives in the same broader lineup come in heavier. The trade-off is a slightly thicker profile, measuring 11.7mm instead of the slimmer 10.4mm seen on some of its siblings.

Pricing and availability are also clear for early buyers. The Citizen Series 8 890 Mechanical NB6060-07A is available in the United States through Citizen’s online store and official retailers for $1,295. In Japan, it’s scheduled to launch on March 19 with a price of ¥187,000. Details for additional markets, including Europe, haven’t been confirmed yet.

For anyone shopping the Citizen Series 8 range and looking for the most adventure-ready option—with a rotating inner bezel, 200m water resistance, an in-house automatic movement, and a comfortable lightweight strap—the NB6060-07A is easily the most purpose-built sports watch in the lineup right now.
