Vivo appears to be preparing a major leap in smartphone camera performance with the Sony Lytia L910 sensor, bringing a feature known as LOFIC into the spotlight. The technology is designed to dramatically improve dynamic range, helping photos and videos preserve detail in both very bright and very dark areas at the same time.

In camera samples shared by Vivo, the difference is easy to notice. Darker parts of a subject’s face appear clearer and more naturally exposed, while bright background areas retain detail instead of turning into blown-out white patches. This kind of balance is especially important for difficult scenes, such as portraits against sunlight, night city shots with strong lights, or indoor videos with bright windows in the background.

According to Vivo product executive Han Boxiao, the LOFIC technology used with the Sony Lytia L910 sensor can deliver a real-world dynamic range of 17EV. The company also claims the theoretical peak could reach up to 18EV, which would be a significant achievement for mobile photography.

Dynamic range is one of the biggest challenges for smartphone cameras. While modern phones already use advanced HDR processing, strong contrast can still cause shadows to lose detail or highlights to become overexposed. LOFIC is intended to solve this more effectively at the sensor level, giving the camera more usable image data before software processing even begins.

Vivo also highlights an improvement in Full Well Capacity, listed at 250e compared with around 150e for competing technologies. In simple terms, this means the sensor can handle more light information before clipping occurs, which helps preserve bright details and improve overall image quality in challenging lighting.

The Sony Lytia L910 sensor is also said to deliver extremely low readout noise of 0.75e. Lower readout noise can result in cleaner photos and videos, especially in darker scenes where grain and digital noise are usually more visible. For users who often shoot at night or indoors, this could translate into sharper, cleaner, and more natural-looking results.

Another notable claim is improved efficiency during 4K video recording. Vivo says the new technology can reduce energy consumption by around 30 percent when capturing 4K footage. That could help with longer recording sessions, reduced heat buildup, and better battery life while filming high-resolution video.
