ViewSonic is aiming straight at laptop users who want more screen space without hauling around a full desktop monitor setup. The new ViewSonic VG1457 is a dual 14-inch portable monitor that folds up like a slim notebook, then opens to reveal two displays that can turn a typical laptop into a flexible triple-screen workstation.
When closed, the VG1457 looks and travels like a compact 14-inch laptop. It weighs around 1.36 kg (3.00 lb), which is similar to many everyday notebooks, making it realistic for commuters, remote workers, students, and frequent travelers who build temporary workstations in cafés, coworking spaces, hotels, or client offices.
Open it up and you get two 14-inch screens connected by a hinge. Pair it with your laptop display and you suddenly have three screens to work with—handy for multitasking, spreadsheets, editing timelines, coding with reference windows, research with multiple documents, or managing dashboards while keeping communication apps visible.
Both screens use a 16:10 aspect ratio and run at 60 Hz. ViewSonic went with IPS panels rather than OLED, keeping the focus on affordability while still delivering reliable viewing angles and everyday color performance. Each panel offers a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, which is a practical sweet spot for productivity: sharp enough for text-heavy work and roomy enough for side-by-side windows without feeling cramped.
For positioning, the VG1457 includes a built-in kickstand so you can set up the screens in ways that fit your workflow. You can stack them vertically for a tall workspace or arrange them side-by-side for a wide view—useful depending on whether you’re working with long documents, multiple apps, or wide spreadsheets. An integrated sensor also detects whether you’re using the unit in portrait or landscape orientation and automatically rotates the displays accordingly, reducing setup friction when you’re constantly moving and adjusting your workspace.
Connectivity is handled through two USB-C ports. One connects to your laptop for the display link, and the other is for plugging in a USB-C charger. With external power connected, the VG1457 can provide up to 65W of passthrough charging to your laptop through the second USB-C port—helpful for simplifying cable management and keeping your laptop topped up during long sessions. There’s no internal battery, though, so if you’re away from an outlet, the VG1457 will draw power from your laptop.
As for pricing, the ViewSonic VG1457 Dual 14-inch Portable Monitor is officially listed at $349.99 in the US. Availability and pricing for other regions haven’t been shared yet.
For anyone looking to build a travel-friendly multi-monitor setup for work or study, the VG1457 positions itself as a cost-conscious alternative to premium dual-screen portable displays, with a clear focus on productivity, portability, and simple USB-C-based setup.
