Trek Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 Debuts as a Full-Suspension Electric Mountain Bike With Bosch Power
Trek has introduced the Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4, a new full-suspension electric mountain bike built for riders who want trail-ready performance, long-range battery support, and the confidence of a proven Bosch e-bike system. The latest model arrives as a capable option for off-road adventures, daily exploration, and demanding terrain, combining premium components with a more durable aluminum frame design.
While the Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 shares several key components with Trek’s higher-end electric mountain bikes, it takes a different approach when it comes to frame material. Instead of using a carbon frame, Trek equips this model with an Alpha Platinum aluminum frame. This makes the bike slightly heavier, but it also gives it a sturdy and practical foundation for riders who prioritize strength and reliability.
The Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 weighs 24.88 kg, or 54.86 lbs. For comparison, a similar carbon-framed model weighs 23.98 kg, or 52.87 lbs. The difference is relatively small, and both frame types are rated to handle a maximum payload of 136 kg, or 300 lbs. That makes the Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 suitable for a wide range of riders and gear setups.
At the center of the bike is Bosch’s Performance Line CX mid-drive motor, one of the most recognized motor systems in the electric mountain bike market. It delivers up to 750 W of peak power and 85 Nm of torque, giving riders strong assistance when climbing steep trails, accelerating out of corners, or tackling technical terrain. For those who want even more pulling power, torque can be adjusted up to 100 Nm through the Bosch eBike Flow app.
The motor supports speeds of up to 20 mph, or 32 km/h, which keeps the bike in line with common e-bike regulations in many markets. Power comes from a Bosch PowerTube 800 battery, offering a large energy reserve for longer rides. Trek claims the Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 can reach up to 160 km, or 100 miles, on a single charge when used in eco mode.
Riders who need even more range can add the optional 250 Wh Bosch PowerMore range extender. This makes the bike especially appealing for long-distance trail riders, bikepackers, or anyone who wants extra confidence before heading deep into the outdoors.
The Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 is also equipped with a 12-speed wireless Shimano XT Di2 drivetrain. This electronic shifting system is designed to deliver fast, accurate, and smooth gear changes with less maintenance than traditional cable-operated setups. For mountain bikers, that can make a noticeable difference on climbs, descents, and unpredictable trail sections.
Suspension duties are handled by a Fox 36 fork with 150 mm of travel, giving the bike the ability to absorb rough trails, roots, rocks, and drops. The mixed-wheel setup includes a 29 x 2.5-inch front tire and a 27.5 x 2.5-inch rear tire. This combination is popular on modern electric mountain bikes because it offers the rollover advantage of a larger front wheel while keeping the rear end agile and responsive.
Braking performance comes from Shimano XT 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes. These brakes are built to provide strong and consistent stopping power, which is especially important on heavier electric mountain bikes and steep downhill sections.
Trek also includes several practical accessories with the Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4. The bike ships with a kickstand, bell, taillight, headlight, and rack, making it more versatile for everyday use as well as trail riding. These additions help the bike stand out as more than just a performance-focused eMTB; it can also serve riders who want an electric bike for commuting, touring, or recreational riding.
Connectivity is handled through Bosch’s eBike Flow app. Riders can use the app to view real-time speed, ride statistics, distance, battery level, and other useful data. The app also supports integration with platforms such as Apple Health and Strava, allowing users to track fitness progress and share ride information.
The Trek Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 is available now through Trek’s official sales channels. Buyers can choose between Blue Sage and Catalina Fog color options. With its Bosch Performance Line CX motor, long-range battery, full-suspension setup, wireless Shimano drivetrain, and practical accessories, the Powerfly+ FS 8 Gen 4 positions itself as a versatile electric mountain bike for riders who want both trail capability and everyday usability.
