Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Unveils an Exciting New Teaser

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Gets New 30th Anniversary Teaser Ahead of 2027 Release

Amazon Games, Crystal Dynamics, and Flying Wild Hog have revealed a new 30th anniversary teaser trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, giving fans another look at Lara Croft’s return in a full reimagining of her original adventure.

The teaser was first shown during fan-focused Tomb Raider anniversary events before being released online on October 25. Its arrival celebrates nearly three decades of Lara Croft, who first appeared in the original Tomb Raider in October 1996. That landmark game introduced players to a globe-trotting archaeologist, deadly tombs, ancient secrets, and the kind of cinematic adventure that helped define the action-adventure genre.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is being rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, offering a modern take on Lara Croft’s first journey. While the game keeps the core premise of the original, it expands the experience with updated visuals, enhanced gameplay systems, and a deeper narrative connection to Lara’s future adventures.

The story follows Lara as she searches for the scattered pieces of the Scion, a powerful ancient artifact tied to lost civilizations and dangerous secrets. Her journey takes her across Peru, Greece, Egypt, and a mysterious island linked to the legend of Atlantis. Longtime fans will recognize many of these locations, but the developers are aiming to make them feel fresh, larger, and more immersive for modern players.

Alix Wilton Regan voices Lara Croft in this new version, bringing a new performance to the iconic explorer. The game is described as a true reimagining rather than a simple remake, meaning players can expect familiar story beats alongside new details, expanded character moments, and improved world-building.

Gameplay is also getting a major overhaul. Lara will have access to a grappling hook, giving her more freedom to climb, swing, leap, and navigate dangerous environments. This tool is expected to make exploration more dynamic, especially in large tombs and vertical areas filled with traps and hidden paths.

Another new feature is the archaeological scanner. This optional tool allows Lara to study her surroundings, uncover clues, and better understand ancient sites. It appears designed for players who enjoy investigation and environmental storytelling, while still allowing others to move through the adventure at a faster pace.

Combat has been modernized with a new focus meter system. As Lara deals damage, dodges attacks, and takes hits, the meter builds up. Once charged, time slows around her, allowing players to perform stylish acrobatic moves and gain an advantage during intense encounters. This system aims to blend Lara’s athletic movement with fast-paced action.

The game also brings back a skill tree, giving players more ways to shape Lara’s abilities. Artifacts can be used to earn skill points, which unlock upgrades such as faster firing, improved healing, and other survival-focused enhancements. Crafting will also play a role, adding another layer to exploration and resource management.

Of course, Lara’s signature dual pistols are returning. The developers have confirmed that players can complete the entire game using only the dual pistols if they choose, which should appeal to fans who want a more classic Tomb Raider experience.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game is planned to release on all platforms on the same day.

Pre-orders are already available, with the standard edition listed at $59.99. A Survivor Outfit bonus is included as a pre-order incentive. Earlier promotional footage highlighted the reworked Greek levels, showing how the development team is updating classic areas while preserving the spirit of the original adventure.

With Unreal Engine 5 visuals, expanded traversal, deeper combat mechanics, and a modern retelling of Lara Croft’s first major quest, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated action-adventure games of 2027. For longtime fans, it offers a nostalgic return to the beginning. For newcomers, it could be the perfect entry point into one of gaming’s most legendary franchises.
