SPINE, the stylish cyberpunk gun-fu action game from Nekki, now has a release window. The long-awaited single-player cinematic action adventure is planned to launch in summer 2027 for Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also in development and is expected to arrive at a later date.
Set in the neon-lit dystopia of Tensor City, SPINE puts players in the role of Redline, a rebellious street artist fighting back against a ruthless AI-controlled regime. After a mafia heist goes terribly wrong, Redline loses everything, including her brother. Her search for him pulls her into a brutal conflict against the city’s ruling powers, aided by Spine, a sentient combat implant with its own personality and agenda.
Tensor City is a towering technocratic megacity built by artificial intelligence after the outside world was devastated by ecological collapse. In this society, every citizen’s worth is determined by a Social Rating. That score decides who gets food, who gets work, and who is discarded. Above, the New City shines with polished futuristic luxury. Below, the Old City decays in poverty, crime, and desperation. It is in this broken underworld that Redline begins her fight.
The latest SPINE trailer reveals a deeper look at the game’s story and enemies, including Judge, the supreme leader of Tensor City. It also introduces Tensor’s Children, Edda Kopp and Malady, who are equipped with powerful Spine implants of their own. These enemies appear to play a major role in the game’s high-stakes battles, pushing Redline to her limits across a range of visually striking locations.
The trailer also highlights several key gameplay systems, including directional attacks, parries, dodges, environmental takedowns, and boss fights. Players can expect intense close-quarters combat that blends martial arts, gunplay, and cinematic movement into what Nekki describes as Freeflow Gun Fu. Fights are designed to feel fast, fluid, and highly choreographed, while still keeping control firmly in the player’s hands.
SPINE’s action is built around making every fight feel like a scene from an action movie. The game uses dynamic camera work and stunt-inspired combat choreography to heighten the impact of each encounter. Players will battle through underground laboratories, decaying urban districts, the towering cliffs of the City’s Greenhouse, and even the top of a high-speed train.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and Nekki’s Cascadeur animation technology, SPINE aims to deliver a visually rich cyberpunk world with smooth, reactive combat animations. The goal is to make each encounter feel unique, allowing players to create their own rhythm of gunfire, dodges, strikes, and brutal finishing moves.
Beyond its combat, SPINE is also focused on atmosphere and story. Redline and her AI companion are not just fighting for survival; they are challenging a system that controls every part of human life. As they move through Tensor City, their actions affect the people they meet and the streets they leave behind.
With its mix of cyberpunk storytelling, stylish third-person action, gun-fu combat, and cinematic presentation, SPINE is shaping up to be one of the more distinctive action games planned for 2027. Fans of futuristic action adventures, dystopian sci-fi worlds, and fast-paced close-range gun combat will likely want to keep this one on their radar.
