Snapchat is expanding the way people can share their whereabouts with trusted friends by rolling out a new feature called Arrival Notifications. After introducing Home Safe alerts—designed to let friends and family know when you’ve made it back home—the app now lets you set automatic arrival alerts for other destinations, too.
With Arrival Notifications, Snapchat users can create one-time or recurring alerts for places beyond home. The idea is to make everyday check-ins effortless, whether you’re traveling and want someone to know you’re back at your hotel for the night, or you’d like a friend to automatically get a ping when you arrive at a weekly class, sports practice, or recurring meeting. Instead of remembering to send a message every time, Snapchat can do it for you the moment you arrive.
Privacy remains a central part of how the feature works. Arrival Notifications function similarly to Home Safe: alerts can only be sent to people you’ve chosen to share your location with. Snapchat also emphasizes that Snap Map location sharing is turned off by default, meaning no one can see where you are—or receive arrival alerts—unless you opt in and select specific friends. For one-time alerts, there are built-in limits: they expire once the alert is sent, or after 24 hours if it’s never triggered.
Setting up Arrival Notifications is designed to be straightforward. First, you share your location with a trusted friend you want to keep in the loop. Then you open your friendship profile, scroll to Arrival Notifications, and choose a location on the map. Snapchat lets you personalize it by naming the place—like “run club,” “piano lessons,” or “workout class.” After that, you select whether the alert is one-time or recurring, and Snapchat will automatically notify your friend when you arrive at that location.
The update builds on the continued momentum of Snap Map, which has grown into a major part of the Snapchat experience with more than 400 million monthly active users, according to the company. First introduced in 2017, Snap Map began as a way to view friends’ locations and explore public posts from around the world. Over time, it has evolved into a tool for discovering local hotspots and finding things to do nearby—blending social sharing with real-world exploration.
By adding Home Safe and now Arrival Notifications, Snapchat is clearly positioning Snap Map as more than just a social feature. It’s also becoming a practical safety and coordination tool, designed to help friends and families stay connected in a lightweight, opt-in way that fits daily routines.
