Seiko Unveils Limited-Edition Prospex HBB006 Inspired by Glowing “Blue Tears” Seas
Seiko has introduced a striking new limited-edition Prospex diver’s watch that takes its inspiration from one of the ocean’s most magical nighttime displays: “Blue Tears.” This natural phenomenon occurs when bioluminescent plankton lights up coastal waters with an electric blue glow, creating the illusion of waves shimmering in the dark.
The new Seiko Prospex HBB006 Thong Sia Group Exclusive Limited Edition captures that same atmosphere with a rich deep-blue sunray dial and a matching blue rotating bezel. The dial is designed to reflect light in a way that recalls glowing plankton moving beneath the surface of the sea, giving the watch a dramatic aquatic character.
Built as a serious diver’s watch, the HBB006 features oversized luminous hour markers and hands for strong visibility in low-light conditions. Its stainless-steel case and bracelet give it a sturdy, tool-watch feel, while the bold case shape appears to follow the angular design language of Seiko’s refreshed Samurai-style Prospex models.
Inside the watch is Seiko’s in-house automatic 4R35 movement. This mechanical caliber operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. It also includes stop-second functionality, allowing more precise time setting.
Although Seiko has not yet released the complete official specification sheet, the HBB006 appears closely related to recent Prospex Samurai-style models. That suggests a stainless-steel case measuring around 41.7mm in diameter, 12.3mm thick, with a 49.5mm lug-to-lug length and 20mm lug width. These proportions should make it substantial enough for a dive watch while still wearable for many wrist sizes.
The watch comes fitted with a stainless-steel bracelet, and Seiko will also include an additional navy blue rubber strap in the box. That extra strap gives owners a sportier option for diving, travel, or casual daily wear.
What makes the Seiko Prospex HBB006 especially notable is its limited availability. Production will be restricted to just 1,200 pieces, making it more exclusive than some other recent regional Prospex releases. The model will be sold only through Thong Sia Group authorized dealers in Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and Brunei.
The regional focus makes sense given the inspiration behind the watch. The “Blue Tears” phenomenon is often seen along coastlines in parts of Asia, including areas near China, Malaysia, and Taiwan. By tying the design to this natural spectacle, Seiko has created a diver that feels closely connected to the waters of the region where it will be sold.
The Seiko Prospex HBB006 is expected to launch in October. Official pricing has not yet been announced, but with only 1,200 units planned and distribution limited to select Asian markets, demand among collectors could be strong. Buyers outside the launch regions may find it difficult to secure one at retail, especially if interest grows after release.
For fans of Seiko dive watches, blue-dial watches, and limited-edition Prospex models, the HBB006 is shaping up to be one of the brand’s more eye-catching regional releases of the year. Its combination of a bioluminescent ocean-inspired design, reliable automatic movement, robust diver styling, and low production number should make it a highly desirable piece for collectors.
