Seiko Astron Nexter Shohei Ohtani Limited Edition HAB012J launches with GPS solar movement
Seiko has introduced a new limited-edition Astron Nexter model celebrating baseball superstar Shohei Ohtani. The new Seiko Astron Nexter HAB012J will be released exclusively in Japan, with production limited to just 1,700 pieces.
Priced at ¥440,000 including tax, or around $2,784, the watch is scheduled to arrive in November. Reservations are set to open on Friday, September 25, at noon through Seiko’s official online store, Seiko Dream Square, and Seiko boutiques in Japan.
The HAB012J stands out with a sporty design inspired by Ohtani’s team colors. Its blue textured dial is paired with white sub-dials and a red seconds hand, creating a bold and recognizable look. One of the most meaningful details is found at the 3 o’clock sub-dial, where Ohtani’s jersey number 17 is displayed. Blue accents also appear on the crown and pushers, giving the watch a cohesive, collector-focused design.
The case back adds another exclusive touch, featuring Shohei Ohtani’s signature along with an individual serial number. This makes each piece feel more personal and reinforces its appeal as a limited-edition collector’s watch.
The Seiko Astron Nexter HAB012J uses a pure titanium case with Seiko’s Diamond Shield coating for improved durability and scratch resistance. The case measures 43.4 mm across, 12.4 mm thick, and 50 mm from lug to lug. It is fitted with a sapphire crystal featuring Super Clear Coating for improved visibility, while LumiBrite on the hands and indexes helps with readability in low-light conditions.
Water resistance is rated at 10 bar, making it suitable for everyday wear. The titanium bracelet includes a one-push three-fold clasp with a smart adjuster for easier fit adjustments. Seiko also includes an additional blue and white silicone strap, giving owners a more casual and sporty option.
Powering the watch is Seiko’s 5X63 GPS solar caliber. This movement can receive GPS satellite signals to automatically adjust the time, making it especially useful for frequent travelers. It supports 38 time zones and includes a perpetual calendar, dual-time display, 1/20-second stopwatch, and power reserve indicator.
On a full charge, the watch can run for approximately six months under normal use. In power-saving mode, it can last up to two years. If GPS signal reception is unavailable, Seiko rates the movement’s accuracy at ±15 seconds per month.
This is not Seiko’s first Astron collaboration with Shohei Ohtani. A previous Ohtani Astron model released in 2022 was also limited to 1,700 pieces, though it was priced lower at ¥308,000 at launch. With Ohtani’s global popularity and the limited production run, the new HAB012J is likely to attract strong interest from both Seiko Astron fans and baseball collectors.
The Seiko Astron Nexter Shohei Ohtani HAB012J combines GPS solar technology, lightweight titanium construction, and a design filled with personal references to one of baseball’s biggest stars. For collectors in Japan, this limited-edition release could become one of the most sought-after Astron models of the year.
