Seiko is adding another collector-friendly release to its Prospex lineup with two new Diver 1965 Heritage Shohei Ohtani 2026 limited editions. Created to celebrate the baseball star’s achievements, these Japan-launch models arrive in stores on April 24, 2026, and they’re designed to blend classic dive-watch styling with subtle, personal tributes to Ohtani.
There are two references in the drop: the Seiko Prospex SBDC222 and SBDC224. Each watch is limited to 1,700 pieces, and both carry the same price in Japan: ¥286,000 (tax included), roughly $1,836. The main difference between the two is the dial color, giving fans and collectors a choice without changing the core specifications.
Inspiration for the look comes from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ away uniform palette, built around grey and blue and finished with gold accents. Seiko uses gold coloring on key elements such as the bezel edge, crown, hands, and hour markers. The idea is to echo the special gold MLB logo patch seen on select award-winning players, including MVP recipients. On both watches, the bezel insert is blue, while the dial is either silver-toned on one version or a deeper blue on the other, creating two distinct personalities within the same limited-edition theme.
Both models are built with a stainless-steel case and matching bracelet, finished with Seiko’s DiaShield coating to improve scratch resistance. The case measures 40 mm across and 13 mm thick, striking a wearable size for everyday use while still delivering the sturdy feel people expect from a Prospex diver. A curved sapphire crystal protects the dial and includes an internal anti-reflective coating to help with legibility in bright conditions.
As proper dive watches, the SBDC222 and SBDC224 are rated to 300 meters of water resistance for air diving use, reinforcing that these aren’t just commemorative pieces meant to sit in a box.
Inside, Seiko fits its in-house automatic Caliber 6R55. It offers an approximate 72-hour power reserve, runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and uses 24 jewels. Seiko lists accuracy at +25 to -15 seconds per day under standard temperature conditions when worn, which is in line with expectations for this movement family.
The limited-edition details go beyond the colorway. Ohtani’s jersey number “17” appears on the crown, his signature is featured on the bracelet clasp, and the caseback is engraved with “Shohei Ohtani Limited Edition” alongside each watch’s individual serial number. Seiko also includes a special presentation box bearing Ohtani’s signature, finishing the package with the kind of extras collectors usually look for in numbered releases.
With a classic 1965-inspired diver foundation, modern materials like sapphire crystal, a long-running 6R55 automatic movement, and thoughtful Shohei Ohtani design cues, these Prospex limited editions are positioned to appeal to both Seiko enthusiasts and baseball fans looking for a wearable, low-key tribute that still feels special.
