Seiko has expanded its Essentials collection with two new stainless steel chronographs that combine everyday practicality with a more refined, dressy look. The new Seiko HGK001 and Seiko HGK002 share the same core specifications, including a 40 mm case, sapphire crystal, and the 8T63 quartz chronograph movement, but each model brings a noticeably different style.
The Seiko HGK001 leans into a warmer, classic appearance with a cream dial and yellow-gold-tone bezel ring. Its dial features a subtle grid-like texture that adds depth without making the watch feel too busy. The Seiko HGK002, on the other hand, takes a darker and more modern approach with a slate-gray textured dial paired with rose-gold-tone accents. Both watches aim to offer a polished chronograph design that can work just as well with casual outfits as it can with smarter attire.
Both models use a stainless steel case measuring 40 mm in diameter, 11.5 mm in thickness, and 45.8 mm from lug to lug. These dimensions place the watches in a versatile size range, making them suitable for many wrist sizes while still offering enough presence for a sporty chronograph. The case is topped with sapphire crystal, a welcome upgrade for buyers who want better scratch resistance than standard mineral glass.
One of the more distinctive design elements is the faceted octagonal bezel. Instead of using a fully rounded bezel shape often seen on many traditional chronographs, Seiko has given these models a sharper, more angular frame. This gives the HGK001 and HGK002 a slightly more contemporary character while still keeping the overall design clean and wearable.
Inside both watches is Seiko’s 8T63 quartz caliber. This movement powers a 60-minute chronograph that measures in 1/5-second increments, along with a small seconds display, a 24-hour subdial, and a date window. It is a straightforward and practical setup for users who want reliable timekeeping and chronograph functionality without the upkeep associated with a mechanical movement.
The watches also include LumiBrite on the hands and indices for improved visibility in low-light conditions. Water resistance is rated at 10 bar, making the models suitable for daily wear and light water exposure. Magnetic resistance is listed at 4,800 A/m, and both watches are fitted with a screw-down case back.
Pricing for the Seiko HGK001 and HGK002 varies by region. In the Philippines, both models are listed at PHP 30,500, which is approximately $497. However, some retailers in other markets have shown lower pricing, suggesting that regional differences may play a noticeable role in the final retail cost.
The Seiko HGK001 and HGK002 appear to be reaching retailers now, giving watch enthusiasts another pair of affordable quartz chronographs to consider. With sapphire crystal, stainless steel construction, useful chronograph features, and two attractive dial options, these new Seiko Essentials models could appeal to buyers looking for a stylish everyday watch with dependable quartz accuracy.
