Citizen expands its Classic Eco-Drive lineup with four new 44mm chronographs
Citizen has introduced four new Classic Eco-Drive chronograph watches, bringing a bold mix of sporty styling, practical features, and light-powered convenience to its latest collection. The new models arrive with large 44mm stainless steel cases, multifunction chronograph dials, and either a tachymeter bezel or a 60-minute bezel, depending on the version.
For now, the new Citizen Classic Eco-Drive chronographs are available in Canada, with pricing starting at CAD $795.
The lineup includes four references: BL5630-52H, BL5632-57E, BL5640-59L, and BL5644-58E. Each model has its own personality, giving buyers a choice between understated stainless steel, bold gold-tone styling, and a sportier two-tone finish.
The BL5630-52H features a brushed stainless steel case and bracelet paired with a gray dial, giving it the most classic and versatile appearance in the group. The BL5640-59L adds a more dynamic look with a silver-tone case, matching bracelet, deep blue dial, and coordinating blue bezel.
For those who prefer a more luxurious presence on the wrist, the BL5632-57E comes in a full gold-tone finish. Meanwhile, the BL5644-58E combines a silver-tone stainless steel case with gold-tone accents and a black dial, creating a dressy but sporty two-tone design.
All four watches use a 44mm stainless steel case, making them a strong choice for anyone who prefers a larger wristwatch with noticeable presence. Citizen pairs each model with a five-link stainless steel bracelet, a fold-over clasp with push buttons, and a mineral crystal protecting the dial.
The bezel design differs across the collection. The blue-dial BL5640-59L and the two-tone BL5644-58E feature tachymeter bezels, adding a motorsport-inspired touch and allowing users to calculate average speed over a known distance. The BL5630-52H and BL5632-57E use fixed 60-minute bezels with engraved numerals instead, giving them a slightly more traditional sports-watch feel.
The dials are packed with functions, giving these watches the busy, technical look often associated with classic analog chronographs. At 10 o’clock, a subdial displays a second time zone on a 24-hour scale. At 2 o’clock, another register handles the 1/20-second chronograph function. A third subdial at 6 o’clock controls the watch’s different modes, including time, chronograph, alarm, and local time. A small date window is positioned at 4 o’clock.
Inside each model is Citizen’s E821 Eco-Drive movement. This light-powered caliber can draw energy from natural or artificial light, removing the need for regular battery changes. That remains one of the biggest advantages of Citizen Eco-Drive watches, especially for buyers who want a low-maintenance everyday chronograph.
The watches also include several practical features beyond the chronograph. The specification list includes a perpetual calendar, dual time, 12/24-hour time display, alarm, date, and water resistance rated at 100 meters, or 10 bar. That makes the collection suitable for daily wear, travel, and casual water exposure.
Pricing in Canada is CAD $795 for the BL5630-52H and BL5640-59L. The gold-tone BL5632-57E and two-tone BL5644-58E are priced slightly higher at CAD $850. Availability outside Canada has not yet been confirmed.
Key specifications include a 44mm stainless steel case, mineral crystal, five-link stainless steel bracelet, Citizen E821 Eco-Drive movement, 1/20-second chronograph measuring up to 60 minutes, dual time, alarm, perpetual calendar, date display, and 100-meter water resistance.
With their large cases, detailed dials, light-powered movement, and mix of classic and motorsport-inspired styling, the new Citizen Classic Eco-Drive chronographs offer a feature-rich option for buyers looking for an affordable analog chronograph with strong wrist presence.
