Seiko Prospex Speedtimer 2026: Four New Mechanical Models Expand the Motorsport-Inspired Collection
Seiko is bringing fresh energy to its Prospex Speedtimer lineup with four new mechanical watches scheduled for release in September 2026. The latest additions include two automatic chronographs, the Prospex HBD001 and HBD002, alongside two smaller three-hand models, the Prospex HBC003 and HBC004. Together, they broaden the Speedtimer family with a mix of vintage racing inspiration, modern materials, and reliable automatic movements.
The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer collection has long been associated with motorsport styling and chronograph heritage, and the new HBD001 and HBD002 continue that theme with designs inspired by Seiko’s early 1970s Speedtimer chronographs. Both models feature 42 mm stainless steel cases treated with Seiko’s super-hard coating for added durability. They measure 14.6 mm thick, use sapphire crystal, and offer 100 meters of water resistance.
The HBD001 stands out with a vertically textured sky-blue dial paired with black chronograph counters, giving it a bold, high-contrast look. It comes fitted with a stainless steel bracelet for a sportier everyday feel. The HBD002 takes a slightly more refined approach, combining a warm silver dial with sky-blue counters and a grey leather strap. While both watches share the same case architecture and movement, these dial and strap choices give each model a distinct personality.
Powering the HBD001 and HBD002 is Seiko’s automatic 8R48 chronograph calibre. This movement uses a column wheel and vertical clutch, two features appreciated by mechanical chronograph enthusiasts for smoother operation and improved precision when starting, stopping, and resetting the chronograph. The movement runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 45-hour power reserve.
For those who prefer a smaller and simpler Speedtimer, Seiko is also introducing the Prospex HBC003 and HBC004. These models keep the racing-inspired design language but move away from the chronograph layout in favor of a cleaner three-hand configuration. Their stainless steel cases measure 39.5 mm across and 12 mm thick, making them more compact and easier to wear for a wider range of wrist sizes.
Unlike the chronograph models, the HBC003 and HBC004 increase water resistance to 200 meters, adding more versatility for daily wear and outdoor use. Both watches are equipped with sapphire crystal and feature an internal rotating bezel, giving them a distinctive sporty character while maintaining a practical edge.
The Seiko Prospex HBC003 features a light-blue vertically brushed dial accented by orange details, creating a bright and energetic look. It is paired with a stainless steel bracelet, reinforcing its sporty appeal. The HBC004 offers a darker alternative, using a deep grey dial with similar orange accents and an embossed leather strap for a more understated and vintage-inspired appearance.
Inside the HBC003 and HBC004 is Seiko’s 6R55 automatic calibre. This movement operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers a strong 72-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to run for three full days when fully wound. That extended power reserve makes these models especially practical for collectors who rotate between multiple watches.
Pricing for the new Seiko Prospex Speedtimer models starts at €1,000 for the HBC004 and €1,030 for the HBC003. The chronograph models sit higher in the range, with the HBD002 priced at €2,680 and the HBD001 at €2,780. In US dollar terms, that places the models at approximately $1,159, $1,194, $3,108, and $3,224 respectively.
All four Seiko Prospex Speedtimer watches are regular production models rather than limited editions, making them more accessible to enthusiasts who want to add a mechanical Speedtimer to their collection. With the release set for September 2026, Seiko’s latest additions offer a strong mix of heritage design, automatic movements, practical specifications, and distinctive dial options.
