Timex MK1 Chronograph Debuts With Meca-Quartz Movement, Sunray Dials, and Field Watch Styling
Timex has expanded its MK1 field watch collection with two new chronograph models that combine everyday quartz accuracy with the satisfying feel of a mechanical stopwatch. The new Timex MK1 Chronograph arrives in two versions: a silver-tone stainless steel model with a green sunray dial priced at $239, and a black-finished case version with a blue sunray dial priced at $249.
The biggest highlight is the meca-quartz movement. Unlike a standard quartz chronograph, which typically moves the stopwatch seconds hand in one-second jumps, this hybrid setup uses a quartz base for regular timekeeping and a mechanical module for the chronograph function. As a result, the chronograph seconds hand sweeps smoothly when activated and resets with the crisp snap often associated with mechanical chronographs.
For buyers who like the look and feel of a mechanical chronograph but prefer the lower maintenance and affordability of battery-powered watches, the MK1 Chronograph offers a practical middle ground.
Both new Timex MK1 Chronograph models share the same wearable case dimensions. The case measures 40mm across, 46.5mm lug-to-lug, and 9.5mm thick, making it a versatile size for a wide range of wrists. The proportions also keep it close to the traditional field watch formula: compact, legible, and easy to wear daily.
Timex has fitted the watches with a domed acrylic crystal. While acrylic is more prone to light scratches than sapphire, it has its own advantages. It is resistant to shattering and small surface marks can often be polished out, which gives the watch a more practical, vintage-inspired character.
The dial design keeps things straightforward and highly readable. Full Arabic numerals give the watch a classic field-watch appearance, while luminescent paint on the hands and hour markers improves visibility in low light. The green and blue sunray dials add a more refined touch, helping the watches stand out from basic military-inspired designs.
Each model comes on a 20mm black leather strap with stitching matched to the dial color. The straps use quick-release spring bars, making it easy to swap them without tools. That gives owners room to personalize the watch with nylon, canvas, rubber, or different leather straps depending on the occasion.
The leather straps are sourced from Leather Working Group-certified tanneries, a certification associated with more responsible environmental practices in leather production.
Water resistance is rated at 50 meters. That makes the MK1 Chronograph suitable for daily splashes, rain, and hand-washing, but it is not intended for swimming, diving, or extended water exposure.
With its 40mm stainless steel case, meca-quartz chronograph movement, clean field watch styling, and accessible pricing, the Timex MK1 Chronograph is aimed at watch fans who want a reliable everyday watch with a more engaging stopwatch experience. The green dial model offers a classic steel-case look, while the blue dial version with a black case brings a slightly sportier and more modern personality.
