Capcom brought fresh steel to this year’s Tokyo Game Show with a new story trailer and details for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, offering a deeper look at its dark fantasy narrative, key characters, and intense swordplay.
The trailer sets the stage in Kyoto, where Miyamoto Musashi is ambushed by the demonic Genma. In the brink-of-death chaos, he’s “gifted” an Oni Gauntlet that grants terrifying power against the underworld’s horrors. True to his warrior spirit, Musashi aims to break free from this mystical tether and carve his own path—yet the looming threat may leave him little choice.
Along the journey, Musashi meets Izumo no Okuni and Ono no Takamura, characters inspired by real historical figures. Guided by the voice of a mysterious Oni woman bound to his gauntlet, he is drawn to Takamura, a revered swordsman who wields a gauntlet of his own. He also crosses paths with Okuni, the famed performer behind the iconic Kabuki dance, who abandons the stage to seek a way to defeat the Genma.
The latest footage highlights street-to-street clashes across Kyoto and teases one standout adversary: Togemaru, a serpentine Genma bristling with spikes and capable of whirling into battle at blistering speed. Despite his reluctance to rely on the Oni Gauntlet, Musashi may need to embrace its power to cut down enemies of this caliber.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword is in development for Windows PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, with a release planned for 2026. Expect more updates as this swordplay action adventure sharpens its edge for launch.
