Nothing Phone 1 Reaches End of Software Support With Final July 2026 Update
Nothing has officially ended software support for the Nothing Phone 1, closing the chapter on the company’s first-ever smartphone. The device is now receiving its final software update, which includes the July 2026 Android security patch along with general bug fixes and stability improvements.
Launched in July 2022 with Android 12, the Nothing Phone 1 quickly stood out in a crowded smartphone market thanks to its transparent rear design and unique Glyph Interface. Those design choices helped shape the identity of Nothing’s later phones and made the Phone 1 one of the most recognizable Android devices of its time.
The final update marks the completion of Nothing’s original software promise for the Phone 1. Over its lifetime, the device received three major Android version upgrades and four years of security updates. Its last major Android upgrade was Android 15, meaning the phone will not officially receive Android 16 or future Android security patches.
Although software support has now ended, Nothing says the Phone 1 remains a highly usable device and continues to hold an important place in the company’s history. For many users, the phone can still serve well for everyday tasks, but the lack of future security updates is something owners should keep in mind, especially if they rely on the device for banking, work, or sensitive personal data.
The end of support also highlights how far Nothing has come since its first smartphone. The Phone 1 introduced the brand’s signature design language and helped build a loyal community around the company’s clean software, distinctive hardware, and bold approach to Android phones.
As the Nothing Phone 1 reaches the end of its update cycle, attention is now turning to the company’s next affordable smartphone, the Nothing Phone (4b), which is expected to launch on July 7.
Nothing has confirmed that the upcoming Phone (4b) will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Current rumors suggest it could be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4, paired with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The device is also expected to run Nothing OS 4.1 based on Android 16 out of the box.
The Nothing Phone (4b) is rumored to continue the brand’s transparent design style, though it may use a plastic frame to keep costs down. Leaked details point to three possible color options: Blue, Black, and White.
In terms of display, the Phone (4b) may feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, making it a promising option for users who want smooth scrolling, better gaming visuals, and a more premium viewing experience at a lower price.
Camera details are also beginning to surface. The phone is expected to include a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization, an 8MP secondary camera, and a 16MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
Battery life could be another major selling point. The Nothing Phone (4b) is rumored to pack a large 6,000mAh battery with support for 33W wired fast charging, which should appeal to users who want long-lasting performance without constantly reaching for a charger.
For Nothing Phone 1 owners, the final update is a reminder that even standout devices eventually reach the end of their official support window. The Phone 1 helped establish Nothing as a serious name in the Android market, and while its software journey is now over, its influence can still be seen in the company’s newer and upcoming smartphones.
