Nothing’s Phone (4a) Pro Tease Sparks Glyph Matrix Hype—Then Leaves Fans Let Down

Nothing is ready to pull the curtain back on its next smartphones, with the Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro set to launch tomorrow, March 5. While the standard Phone (4a) has already been shown in full, the Pro model has remained mostly under wraps—until now.

In a fresh teaser shared ahead of the event, Nothing gives fans a quick look at what appears to be the Phone (4a) Pro’s signature lighting system: a glyph matrix-style LED array. The teaser is minimal, showing an all-black screen lit up by a matrix pattern that immediately calls to mind the company’s more premium glyph designs. Nothing has now confirmed the Phone (4a) Pro will indeed use this glyph matrix approach, positioned as a step up from the regular model.

That said, the reveal has sparked some debate. The glyph matrix on the Phone (4a) Pro appears to be noticeably smaller in terms of micro-LED count. The Nothing Phone (3) uses a 489 micro-LED layout, but the Phone (4a) Pro is rumored to feature a much slimmer 137 micro-LED arrangement. For longtime fans who enjoy the detailed animations and notification patterns the glyph system is known for, the big question is whether a reduced LED count will limit what the glyph matrix can actually do.

Adding to the conversation, an animation circulating online—shared by an X user and said to look official—suggests the Phone (4a) Pro’s glyph matrix may still behave similarly to the Phone (3), only with fewer LEDs to work with. It’s still unclear whether the physical glyph area is the same size as before or scaled down along with the micro-LED count, but the early look implies Nothing is aiming to keep the spirit of the feature intact.

Meanwhile, the standard Nothing Phone (4a) takes a different route altogether. Instead of a round or matrix-style glyph setup, it reportedly opts for a simpler glyph bar. That likely means more limited lighting effects and fewer interactive flourishes compared to the Pro—giving the Phone (4a) Pro an easy way to stand out even if other specs end up being close.

On the hardware side, details haven’t been fully confirmed by Nothing yet, but a recent report claims both phones could arrive with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor, a large 5,400 mAh battery, and a 50 MP telephoto camera. Color options may also help differentiate the two models. The regular Phone (4a) is expected in black, white, blue, and pink, while the Pro model is tipped to include additional color choices—though not necessarily all exclusive.

With the official launch happening March 5, the wait won’t be long. In just a few hours, Nothing should finally confirm exactly how the Phone (4a) Pro’s glyph matrix works, what features it supports, and whether the smaller micro-LED layout changes the experience in any meaningful way.
