Retro Fighters has revealed a new Nintendo Switch 2 accessory aimed squarely at fans who miss the feel of classic GameCube gaming. Called the Battle Dock, it’s designed to give the Switch 2 a distinctive GameCube-inspired look while adding the key feature many retro players want most: dedicated ports for original GameCube controllers.
Rather than replacing Nintendo’s standard Switch 2 dock, the Battle Dock works as an outer shell and expansion add-on. You place the official dock inside the Battle Dock first, then connect your Nintendo Switch 2 as usual. Once set up, the front of the unit provides four GameCube controller ports, letting you plug in original controllers for local multiplayer or a more authentic single-player experience.
That functionality matters most for players using the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack’s lineup of GameCube games. With the Battle Dock, titles like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Luigi’s Mansion, and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance can be played with the controller style they were built around. Nintendo is also expected to expand the GameCube catalog with additions such as Super Mario Sunshine and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, making GameCube controller support even more appealing for Switch 2 owners.
Technically, GameCube controller support isn’t a brand-new concept, since USB adapters that connect through a dock have been available. The Battle Dock’s main advantage is presentation and convenience: it integrates four controller ports directly into a dock-like setup and wraps the whole experience in a bold retro design.
Visually, the Battle Dock leans hard into nostalgia with a purple and light gray color scheme reminiscent of the original Nintendo GameCube. Retro Fighters also includes a customizable touch: the purple front cover attaches magnetically and can be swapped out. The company has shown alternative covers in black, orange, and gray for anyone who wants a different look on their entertainment setup.
Retro Fighters hasn’t announced an official release date yet, and pricing hasn’t been confirmed. For now, the Battle Dock stands out as a Switch 2 accessory to watch for GameCube fans who want a cleaner, more stylish way to bring classic controller ports back to modern play.
