A recent hands-on session with GameHub running on the Lenovo Legion Tab 5 shows just how far Android gaming tablets have come for playing PC games, but it also highlights why dedicated handheld gaming PCs still have an edge.
During roughly two hours of testing, the most surprising takeaway was that even demanding PC games can run on an Android tablet through GameHub’s emulator. Once a game was up and running, performance was generally solid and playable, making the overall experience feel more than just a novelty. For anyone curious about PC gaming on Android, this is a clear sign the category is evolving quickly.
Still, the experience isn’t flawless. Load times in some games felt longer than expected, which can interrupt the flow—especially if you’re hopping between sessions or trying to squeeze in quick playtime on the go. There were also reliability concerns. In Slay the Spire 2, cloud saves wouldn’t sync, which is a big deal for players who switch between devices and expect progress to carry over seamlessly. Download speeds were inconsistent too, ranging from acceptable to frustratingly slow, and the session included the occasional crash.
It’s worth noting that GameHub 6.0 is currently in beta. That matters, because beta software often comes with bugs, performance hiccups, and missing polish—issues that may improve significantly with future updates. The core idea appears promising, but it’s not yet the kind of consistently smooth experience most players expect from a grab-and-play gaming device.
For now, a Steam Deck or a Windows-based handheld gaming PC is still likely to deliver the more seamless, dependable way to play PC games on the move. Those devices are purpose-built for the job, with fewer workarounds and less uncertainty around compatibility and stability.
That said, GameHub on the Lenovo Legion Tab 5 could still be a smart option for a specific audience: people who already own a powerful Android tablet and want to play lighter or simpler titles from their Steam library while traveling or away from their main PC. In that case, trying the emulator is relatively low-risk, and it can be an appealing way to extend what your tablet can do without buying another dedicated gaming handheld.
Overall, the Lenovo Legion Tab 5 running GameHub delivers a mix of impressive potential and beta-stage rough edges—an exciting glimpse at Android tablet PC gaming, but not yet a full replacement for a dedicated handheld.
