Intel Sets Stage for Comeback: Diamond Rapids & Clearwater Forest Xeon CPUs to Launch Next Year

Intel is gearing up to take the data center world by storm with its next-generation Xeon CPUs, planning a major release in 2026. The big names to watch are Diamond Rapids and Clearwater Forest, both set to offer cutting-edge performance that could redefine Intel’s position in the market.

In recent years, Intel has held a strong presence in the workstation CPU space with its Xeon products. However, with the rise of AI and increased competition from AMD’s impressive EPYC lineup, Intel’s market share began to slip. AMD’s advancements have pushed Intel to rethink its strategy, aiming to reclaim its leadership in the data center arena.

Intel’s bold future plans include the deployment of Granite Rapids, followed closely by the highly anticipated Diamond Rapids and Clearwater Forest. These represent Intel’s E core (efficient) and P core (performance) product lines, designed to challenge competitors and potentially shift market dynamics back in favor of Team Blue.

Officially confirmed by Intel’s Products CEO, Diamond Rapids, expected in 2026, is generating excitement. This lineup will feature the massive LGA 9324 socket and incorporate Panther Cove-X P-Cores, marking it as one of the company’s fastest Xeon offerings to date. Recent sightings of the LGA 9324 socket on Chinese platforms suggest production is advancing well.

While specific details about Diamond Rapids are scarce, there’s speculation it will use the 18A process technology, ensuring smooth high-volume manufacturing. Intel aims to position Diamond Rapids against AMD’s promising EPYC Venice CPUs, which are expected to leverage TSMC’s 2nm process technology.

Clearwater Forest is another major player in Intel’s strategy, expected to feature the Darkmont Core architecture with up to 288 E-Cores. This series will utilize Foveros Direct hybrid bonding technology and will also be based on the 18A process. Intel intends to rely on its own resources to support this innovative lineup, setting a solid foundation for its next-gen data center portfolio.

All eyes are on Intel as it moves forward with these ambitious plans, which could reshape the competitive landscape and capture significant market attention.
