Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 rollout (based on Android 16) has been positioned as a meaningful step forward, with the company highlighting a lighter system, quicker responsiveness, and overall performance improvements. The update has also been arriving quickly on a growing list of compatible Xiaomi phones and tablets, making it an easy “yes” for users eager to stay current.
But for people who rely on Android game emulation, early user reports suggest HyperOS 3 may come with an unwelcome trade-off on certain devices.
According to posts shared by the emulation community, some users have noticed worse emulation performance after upgrading to HyperOS 3. One widely discussed example involves the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, where users report visual flickering during emulated gameplay, alongside general performance hiccups. Others have echoed similar complaints, and notably, these reports aren’t limited to a single model—suggesting the issue may appear across a selection of Xiaomi devices rather than being isolated to just one tablet.
At the same time, not everyone is affected. Some players say emulated games run normally after updating, which points to a device-specific problem that may depend on the particular hardware configuration, software build, or graphics driver behavior on HyperOS 3.
A potential workaround is already circulating among affected users: the Turnip v25.3.0 Revision 5 custom GPU driver. For some, this driver reportedly reduces stuttering and helps resolve certain emulation slowdowns and instability after moving to HyperOS 3. If you’re experiencing performance drops, it may be worth checking whether your emulation setup supports this driver and whether it’s compatible with your device.
There is an important catch, though. Turnip drivers may not be available for devices running the Snapdragon 8 Elite or newer flagship chipsets. So if your Xiaomi device uses one of those newer SoCs, you may have fewer options to address emulation-related issues until an official fix or broader driver support arrives.
For anyone who regularly plays emulated games on a Xiaomi phone or tablet, the safest approach right now is to weigh the benefits of HyperOS 3 against the possibility of reduced emulation performance. If emulation is a priority, consider waiting for more user feedback specific to your model—or be prepared to test alternative drivers and settings after updating.
