Xiaomi has officially introduced HyperOS 4, its next major Android 17-based software update, and the rollout is already beginning through an early beta program. The company announced the update on Weibo, outlining several major improvements designed to make Xiaomi, Redmi, and related ecosystem devices feel faster, smoother, smarter, and more visually refined.
According to Xiaomi, more than 20 devices are scheduled to receive the Android 17 beta between August and September 2026. The first phase has already started in China, where eight eligible devices have begun receiving the HyperOS 4 test build. For now, the beta is not officially available in global markets, but Xiaomi is expected to share more details for international users in the near future.
HyperOS 4 focuses heavily on performance. Xiaomi says it has upgraded the system kernel to reduce overall system load while improving memory preloading. In everyday use, that should help apps open faster, keep background tasks running more efficiently, and make the interface feel more responsive. The company is also emphasizing smoother animations, aiming to deliver a more fluid experience across menus, app transitions, gestures, and multitasking.
One of the most noticeable changes in HyperOS 4 is its refreshed visual design. Xiaomi is introducing a new interface effect called “soft-light glass,” a glossy, translucent design style that gives UI elements a more modern and layered appearance. However, the soft-light glass design will not be available on every device during the first beta stage. Artificial intelligence is another major focus of HyperOS 4. Xiaomi has integrated its MiMo V2 model into the system, which is expected to enhance AI-powered features across the software.
