HP Unveils ZBook X G2i: A New Mobile Workstation Challenger to the ThinkPad P1 Gen 9

HP is expanding its 2026 mobile workstation lineup with the new HP ZBook X G2i, a 16-inch workstation laptop designed to deliver serious performance without pushing buyers into the company’s highest-priced tiers. It succeeds last year’s ZBook X G1i and slots into a key “sweet spot” in HP’s ZBook range: more affordable than the premium ZBook Ultra and ZBook Fury models, but still built with components aimed at demanding professional workflows.

The headline upgrade is graphics. The HP ZBook X G2i can be configured with the Nvidia RTX Pro 3000 Blackwell, a professional-grade GPU targeted at workloads like CAD, 3D design, rendering, and AI-accelerated tasks. That’s a big deal because this specific GPU tier isn’t commonly offered in many thin workstation laptops, where configurations often top out at lower-class professional graphics options. For creators, engineers, and technical teams, having access to the RTX Pro 3000 Blackwell can translate into faster viewport performance, smoother model manipulation, and quicker GPU-accelerated compute in supported applications.

CPU performance gets a modern boost too, with the ZBook X G2i set to include the latest Panther Lake H-class processors. Combined with support for up to 128 GB of RAM, HP is positioning this system as a strong option for memory-heavy work such as large assemblies, complex simulations, big datasets, and multitasking-heavy production environments. In practical terms, that much RAM can be especially valuable for professionals who keep multiple large projects open at once or rely on virtual machines and containerized workflows.

What makes the ZBook X G2i especially interesting is its performance-focused ingredient list in a category where buyers often assume they must pay premium pricing to get top-tier specs. By offering a higher-end pro GPU and massive memory capacity in a model positioned below the flagship ZBook lines, HP is making a clear play for users who want workstation-class capability but still care about value.

As for release timing, HP says the ZBook X G2i is expected to arrive in Spring 2026. Pricing hasn’t been shared yet, but given its placement in the lineup, it’s expected to come in below the company’s most expensive mobile workstations while still targeting professionals who need real compute and graphics power.
