HP has introduced a new 16-inch OmniBook 3 configuration powered by AMD’s Ryzen 7 H 255 processor, giving the laptop a stronger performance profile while keeping it thin, lightweight, and practical for everyday use. The new model is currently available in China under the StarBook 16 name, with a listed price of 6,399 yuan, or around $952.
The biggest upgrade is the AMD Ryzen 7 H 255 chip. This processor features 8 cores and 16 threads, with boost speeds reaching up to 4.9 GHz. It also includes Radeon 780M integrated graphics, making it suitable for productivity, multitasking, streaming, light creative work, and some casual gaming without needing a dedicated GPU.
Compared with the Ryzen 5 240, the Ryzen 7 H 255 delivers a noticeable performance improvement. Benchmark comparisons show it performing around 13% better overall, with an even larger advantage in multi-core workloads. In Cinebench 2024 multi-core testing, the Ryzen 7 H 255 averages around 914 points, while the Ryzen 5 240 sits closer to 654 points. That makes the new OmniBook 3 16 configuration a more capable option for users who frequently run several apps at once or work with demanding office and creative software.
Performance is also close to the Ryzen 7 H 260, as both chips offer 8 cores, 16 threads, and Radeon 780M graphics. The main difference is clock speed, with the Ryzen 7 H 260 reaching up to 5.1 GHz while the Ryzen 7 H 255 tops out at 4.9 GHz. For most users, the real-world difference between the two should be relatively small.
HP pairs the processor with 16 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 1 TB PCIe SSD. The laptop also offers some upgrade flexibility, with memory support up to 32 GB and storage support up to 2 TB. Cooling is handled by a dual-fan, dual-heat-pipe system, which should help maintain stable performance during heavier workloads.
Another major highlight is the display. The new HP OmniBook 3 16 comes with a 16-inch screen featuring a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a fast 240 Hz refresh rate. The taller 16:10 format gives users more vertical space for documents, web browsing, spreadsheets, and creative apps, while the high refresh rate should make scrolling, animations, and supported games feel smoother.
The panel is rated for 400 nits of brightness and covers 100% of the sRGB color space. That makes it a strong fit for users who want a sharper, smoother, and more color-accurate display for work, entertainment, and general content creation.
Despite its 16-inch screen, the laptop remains fairly portable. The chassis is around 14.7 mm thick and weighs approximately 1.64 kg, making it easy to carry for students, remote workers, and frequent travelers. A 68 Wh battery powers the device, and HP includes a 100 W charging adapter.
Connectivity includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The laptop also supports Wi-Fi 6 for faster and more stable wireless connections.
At its current China price of 6,399 yuan, the Ryzen 7 H 255 version of the HP OmniBook 3 16 looks like a competitive 16-inch laptop for users who want a high-resolution 240 Hz display, modern AMD performance, upgradeable memory and storage, and a slim design. HP has not yet confirmed whether this specific configuration will launch in other regions.
