Grand Seiko SBGA523 arrives as a Daimaru-exclusive Spring Drive limited edition with a mint-green peacock dial
Grand Seiko has introduced the SBGA523, a Japan-exclusive Spring Drive watch created in collaboration with Daimaru, one of Japan’s best-known department store chains. Scheduled for release in early October 2026, this special model will be limited to only 200 pieces, making it a highly collectible release for Grand Seiko fans and watch enthusiasts.
The SBGA523 will be sold through five Daimaru locations in Japan: Shinsaibashi, Kyoto, Kobe, Tokyo, and Sapporo. Pricing is set at ¥825,000 including tax, which is roughly around $5,700 depending on exchange rates.
The standout feature of the Grand Seiko SBGA523 is its dial. Finished in a translucent mint-green tone, the dial features a diagonal feather motif inspired by Daimaru’s corporate symbol, the peacock. The pattern gives the watch a refined sense of movement, with rising lines that suggest growth, elegance, and ambition.
Thanks to its teal-green transparent finish, the dial changes character depending on the light and viewing angle. This layered effect adds depth and visual interest, making the SBGA523 more than just another limited-edition color variation. It is a design that directly ties the watch to Daimaru’s identity while still feeling unmistakably Grand Seiko.
The case follows Grand Seiko’s classic 44GS design language, a style known for sharp geometry, broad flat surfaces, and dramatic light reflection. Its stainless steel case is finished with the brand’s signature Zaratsu polishing, creating crisp, mirror-like facets that give the watch its premium presence on the wrist.
In terms of size, the SBGA523 measures 40.0 mm in diameter, 46.2 mm lug-to-lug, and 12.5 mm thick. These proportions place it in a versatile range for a modern luxury sports watch, offering enough wrist presence without becoming oversized.
On the back, the watch includes a display caseback, allowing owners to view the movement inside. Each piece is also engraved with “1 of 200,” emphasizing its limited production status.
Powering the Grand Seiko SBGA523 is the 9R Spring Drive caliber, one of the brand’s most important movement technologies. Spring Drive combines the soul of a mechanical watch with the precision of quartz regulation. It is powered by a traditional mainspring, but instead of using a conventional escapement, it relies on an integrated circuit and quartz oscillator to regulate timekeeping.
The result is impressive accuracy, rated at ±15 seconds per month, or about ±1 second per day. The movement also provides a 72-hour power reserve, giving the watch approximately three days of running time on a full wind.
The Grand Seiko SBGA523 is currently planned as a Japan-only release, with no wider international launch announced. Given the limited production of just 200 units, its Daimaru-exclusive availability, and the distinctive mint-green peacock feather dial, this model is likely to attract strong interest from collectors looking for a rare Grand Seiko Spring Drive watch with a unique design story.
