Grand Seiko Expands Its Spring Drive Evolution 9 Line With Five Ultra-Accurate New Watches
Grand Seiko is preparing a major update to its Spring Drive Evolution 9 collection with five new models scheduled to arrive in September 2026. The upcoming references, SLGB007, SLGB009, SLGB011, SLGB013, and SLGB015, bring the brand’s Spring Drive U.F.A. technology into a fresh range of nature-inspired designs, combining high precision, refined finishing, and practical everyday wearability.
At the center of all five watches is the 9RB2 Spring Drive U.F.A. caliber. U.F.A. stands for Ultra Fine Accuracy, and Grand Seiko’s claim is impressive: an annual accuracy of ±20 seconds. For a movement powered by a mainspring, that level of precision is exceptional and places these models among the most accurate luxury watches in their category.
The 9RB2 movement also offers a 72-hour power reserve, allowing the watch to run for three full days when fully wound. While that is shorter than the five-day reserve found in some earlier Spring Drive Evolution 9 models, many collectors and daily wearers may consider the gain in accuracy a worthwhile exchange.
Four of the new Grand Seiko Spring Drive U.F.A. models share the same case dimensions, measuring 40 mm in diameter, 11.7 mm thick, and 47.2 mm from lug to lug. These proportions keep them in line with the broader Evolution 9 design language, which is known for strong case geometry, excellent finishing, and a modern wrist presence.
The standout for those who prefer a more compact watch is the Grand Seiko SLGB015. This model features a smaller 37 mm case, an 11.4 mm thickness, and a 44.3 mm lug-to-lug measurement. It is the only smaller-sized option in the new lineup and could be especially appealing to collectors who admire the Evolution 9 style but want something more restrained and easier to wear on smaller wrists.
As expected from Grand Seiko, the dials are heavily inspired by Japanese nature, particularly the landscapes surrounding the Shinshu Watch Studio in Shiojiri, Nagano. Each model has its own character, with textures and colors designed to reflect different natural scenes.
The SLGB007 comes in High-Intensity Titanium and features a dark textured dial inspired by Lake Suwa at night. The result is a watch that feels understated, atmospheric, and modern, with the lightness of titanium adding extra comfort for daily use.
The SLGB009 uses Ever-Brilliant Steel and carries a white birch-style dial pattern. This design gives the watch a crisp, elegant appearance while continuing Grand Seiko’s tradition of transforming natural textures into detailed dial work.
The SLGB011 also uses Ever-Brilliant Steel, but its dial takes inspiration from the blue-green waters of the Atera Valley river. This gives the model a vibrant yet sophisticated look, likely to appeal to buyers who want a more colorful Grand Seiko without moving too far from classic elegance.
The SLGB013 and SLGB015 both reference Lake Suwa with blue dial designs and are also made from Ever-Brilliant Steel. The SLGB015, with its smaller 37 mm case, adds an extra layer of appeal for anyone looking for a compact luxury watch with the same advanced Spring Drive movement as the larger models.
All five watches include a box-shaped sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating, improving legibility while preserving a premium vintage-inspired profile. Each model also includes a power reserve indicator, a key feature of Spring Drive watches, giving the wearer a quick view of remaining energy.
Another practical upgrade is the updated tapered bracelet, now fitted with a three-step micro-adjustment clasp. This small but important feature should make the watches more comfortable throughout the day, especially as wrist size changes with temperature and activity. For a watch designed to be worn regularly, a better clasp can make a noticeable difference.
The new models are rated to 10 bar of water resistance, making them suitable for everyday wear and light water exposure. Grand Seiko plans to release the SLGB007, SLGB009, SLGB011, SLGB013, and SLGB015 through its boutiques and selected retail partners worldwide starting in September 2026. Pricing for the United States has not yet been announced.
