Garmin’s Latest Update Supercharges Battery Life for Its Watch-Style Wearables

Garmin is rolling out a fresh software update for the Descent G2, its watch-style dive computer that launched in February 2025. The wearable previously received system software 23.49 in late 2025, a release that focused on ironing out problems affecting the InReach remote and InReach SOS pages, along with improving ANT connection stability.

Now, Descent G2 owners are starting to see system software 25.14, and it brings a set of practical fixes aimed at making the dive-focused smartwatch more reliable day to day. The most notable improvement addresses an issue that could cause the battery to drain faster than expected. Garmin hasn’t shared exact numbers on how much battery life improves after installing the update, but for divers relying on long-lasting power during trips and training, this kind of fix can make a meaningful difference.

The update also adjusts the Dive Readiness widget. Some users experienced inconsistent recovery time readings, and Garmin says this has now been resolved. On top of that, software 25.14 fixes bugs related to pool mode dives, including an issue that could unexpectedly increase the total dive count. Another important correction targets a dive computer error that could occur when switching to an oxygen diluent for a CCR dive—an accuracy and stability fix that matters for more technical dive scenarios.

Availability is expanding gradually. Based on a recent Garmin forum post, system software 25.14 has reached at least 20% of users so far. If your watch is included in the rollout, the update should download and install automatically when the Descent G2 is connected to the Garmin Dive app, the Garmin Connect app, or Garmin Express.
