Garmin’s Latest Update Lands With Fresh Support for Its Newest Chronograph Launch

Garmin is rolling out a new stable software update for its Instinct smartwatch lineup, and while it’s not a big feature-packed release, it adds a notable new capability for users who rely on Garmin’s performance and shooting-sports accessories.

Earlier, Garmin issued a fresh beta update for compatible models such as the Instinct Crossover AMOLED. Interestingly, the new beta build (Beta Version 13.15) appears to list the same change notes as the previous beta, which has left some owners unsure what has actually changed behind the scenes. While users wait for clarification on what this beta update includes, Garmin has also quietly delivered a separate stable update for the Instinct 3 series and related models.

Here’s the catch: even though Garmin has been developing the v13.xx software line for more than a month (starting with Beta Version 13.08 and followed by multiple beta releases), this stable update does not move the Instinct range onto v13.xx. Instead, Garmin has returned to the v12.xx branch for its latest public release.

The new firmware is called System Software 12.26, and it comes with just one official change: added support for Garmin’s new Xero C2 chronograph. Once the update is installed, Instinct 3 series smartwatches should be able to connect with the Xero C2, control it, and display the data it records. That includes compatibility across the range, even on more affordable models like the Instinct E.

As with many Garmin software updates, the rollout is staggered. Garmin currently estimates that about half of eligible watches have already received the over-the-air update notification for System Software 12.26. If you haven’t seen it yet, it may simply still be in the process of reaching your device.
