Garmin Rolls Out Beta 16.07 Update for Instinct 3 and Other Mid-Range Smartwatches
Garmin has released a fresh beta software update for several of its popular mid-range smartwatches, including the Instinct 3, Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct 3 Tactical, Instinct E, and related models. The latest firmware, Beta Version 16.07, continues the company’s ongoing Q4 beta development cycle and brings a mix of visible fixes and under-the-hood improvements.
The update follows earlier beta builds released over the past month, including versions 16.04, 16.05, and 16.06. With Beta 16.07, Garmin is continuing to refine the software experience before a wider stable release becomes available.
Eligible devices include multiple Instinct 3 series models, along with the Instinct Crossover AMOLED and other associated watches in the same software group.
According to Garmin’s changelog, Beta Version 16.07 includes the following updates:
Added Recovery Mode
Fixed an issue where the DogTrack pointer would not update
Fixed lag when viewing the calendar
Fixed a possible crash when starting a workout through a Connect IQ app
Improved wave detection in Surf activity
At first glance, the changelog may look familiar to users who installed earlier beta builds. That is because Garmin has repeated the same list of changes across multiple recent updates. However, the company has explained that this is intentional.
Garmin says some beta releases may arrive with little or no difference in the public changelog because the real changes are focused on security, stability, and background improvements. These types of updates may not add obvious new features, but they are still important for improving overall performance, reliability, and long-term software quality.
The company also clarified that each new beta version includes changelog entries from the previous version to provide complete release information. In other words, even when the update notes appear unchanged, the firmware itself may still include important internal refinements.
This approach suggests Garmin is carefully preparing its Instinct smartwatch lineup for a future stable software rollout. While Beta 16.07 does not appear to introduce major new user-facing features beyond those already listed, it should help improve the overall experience for beta testers.
For users participating in Garmin’s Beta Program, the update may be worth installing if they want the latest fixes and background improvements. However, as with any beta firmware, there may still be minor bugs or unexpected behavior before the final stable version is released.
Garmin has not yet confirmed when the 16.xx software branch will move from beta to stable status. For now, Instinct 3, Instinct 3 Solar, Instinct 3 Tactical, Instinct E, and other supported smartwatch owners can expect the company to continue fine-tuning the software with incremental updates.
The key takeaway is that Beta Version 16.07 may not look dramatically different on paper, but it is part of Garmin’s broader effort to improve smartwatch stability, security, and performance ahead of a wider public release.
