Garmin Rolls Out Beta Version 16.05 for Instinct 3, Instinct E, and Instinct Crossover AMOLED
Garmin has released a fresh beta update for several of its rugged smartwatch models, including the Instinct 3, Instinct E, and Instinct Crossover AMOLED. The new software arrives as Beta Version 16.05 and continues the company’s v16.xx beta development cycle.
This is the second beta build in the 16.xx series, following Beta Version 16.04, which introduced a handful of notable improvements. That earlier update added a new Recovery Mode, refined Wave Detection performance, and included fixes for bugs found in previous firmware versions. It also updated the Sensor Hub firmware to version 41.
However, Garmin has not yet provided a clear list of changes for Beta Version 16.05. Instead of publishing a new changelog, the company appears to have repeated the same notes used for Beta Version 16.04. That has left users wondering whether the latest release includes hidden fixes, performance tweaks, stability improvements, or behind-the-scenes changes that have not been officially detailed.
The update follows the recent stable release of System Software 15.19 for Instinct 3 series smartwatches. While stable updates are aimed at general users, beta releases like version 16.05 are intended for those who want early access to upcoming features and improvements before they reach the wider public.
Unlike some automatic rollouts, Garmin is making Beta Version 16.05 available only through a manual update check. Owners who want to install the latest beta must open the watch’s main menu, go to Settings, then System, then Software Update, and select Check for Updates.
The lack of detailed release notes has already sparked curiosity among Instinct 3 users, with some asking Garmin for more information about what has changed in this build. For now, the update appears to be a quiet step forward in the beta testing process, possibly focused on refinement rather than major new features.
