Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition debuts in Japan with a 2.5K touchscreen, Core Ultra power, and up to 64GB RAM
Vaio has introduced the T Kachi-iro Special Edition in Japan, giving its premium 13.3-inch convertible laptop a distinctive new finish, high-end Intel hardware, and a flexible design aimed at professionals, creators, and users who want a compact PC that can adapt to different work styles.
The new model is part of Vaio’s T series and stands out with its Kachi-iro color treatment, a deep and refined shade inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics. Beyond its appearance, the device is built as a modern Copilot+ PC with strong AI-focused performance, a sharp touchscreen display, and multiple usage modes.
At the heart of the Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition are Intel’s latest Core Ultra processors. Buyers can choose between the Core Ultra X7 358H and the Core Ultra 7 356H. Both chips feature 16 cores and 16 threads, with a 25W power rating and an integrated NPU capable of up to 50 TOPS for AI-related workloads.
The Core Ultra X7 358H is the more powerful option, reaching up to 4.8GHz and pairing with Intel Arc B390 graphics. The Core Ultra 7 356H reaches up to 4.7GHz and uses Intel Graphics. In benchmark comparisons, the Core Ultra X7 358H generally performs ahead of the Core Ultra 7 356H, though the difference can be modest depending on the workload. For example, the X7 358H scored 4,164 points in Cinebench 2026 multi-core testing, while the Core Ultra 7 356H scored 3,769 points. In Cinebench R23 multi-core, the gap was narrower, with 18,806 points versus 18,586 points.
The laptop features a 13.3-inch WQXGA touchscreen with a 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and a productivity-friendly 16:10 aspect ratio. That taller display format gives users more vertical room for documents, web browsing, coding, spreadsheets, and creative apps compared with traditional 16:9 screens.
One of the most appealing parts of the Vaio T design is its multi-flip mechanism. The device can be used as a standard laptop, folded into tablet mode, or positioned in view mode for presentations, video playback, and touch-focused tasks. This makes it more versatile than a typical ultraportable notebook, especially for users who move between typing, sketching, reading, and sharing content.
Vaio offers the Kachi-iro Special Edition with up to 64GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory and up to a 2TB PCIe 5.0 x4 fifth-generation SSD. The high-speed storage should help with fast boot times, quick file transfers, and smoother performance in demanding workflows. However, the memory is soldered, meaning buyers should choose their preferred RAM configuration at purchase because it cannot be upgraded later.
The special edition also includes a unique optional hidden-engraving keyboard. With this design, the black keycaps keep the lettering subtle when the backlight is off, creating a cleaner and more minimalist look. Once the keyboard backlight is activated, the characters become visible, combining style with everyday usability.
Despite its premium hardware and convertible build, the Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition remains relatively portable. Depending on configuration, it weighs between 1.290kg and 1.368kg, or around 2.84 to 3.02 pounds. Its dimensions are 312 x 224.6 x 14.6 to 19.6mm, making it compact enough for commuting, business travel, and daily mobile work.
Battery life is another key selling point. With the optional high-capacity battery, Vaio rates the laptop for up to 18 hours of video playback and up to 29 hours of idle use under the JEITA 3.0 measurement method. Real-world battery life will vary depending on brightness, workload, wireless usage, and performance settings, but the rating suggests the device is designed for long sessions away from a charger.
For video calls and secure sign-ins, the laptop includes a 9.2MP camera with an AI vision sensor and Windows Hello support. Vaio has also included AI-based noise cancellation, which should help improve voice clarity during online meetings, remote work, and virtual classes. A WellnessCare feature is planned to become available from September 30, adding another software-focused element to the device.
The Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition, model VCTNN18, is available in Japan through the Vaio Store. Pricing starts at ¥390,500, or approximately $2,483, for a configuration with the Core Ultra 7 356H, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD.
The top configuration raises the specifications significantly, offering the Core Ultra X7 358H, 64GB of RAM, and a 2TB SSD for ¥797,500, or around $5,072. Additional options such as a high-capacity battery and Windows 11 Pro are available at extra cost. Vaio is also offering a ¥33,000 launch discount until December 1, 2026.
With its premium finish, flexible 2-in-1 design, high-resolution touchscreen, AI-ready Intel Core Ultra processors, and generous memory and storage options, the Vaio T Kachi-iro Special Edition is clearly positioned as a luxury ultraportable for users who want both performance and style in a compact Windows laptop.
