Garmin Smartwatches Facing Potential ‘Triangle of Death’ Bootloop Issue After Recent Updates

Garmin users have recently reported the frustrating return of the notorious “triangle of death,” affecting a range of smartwatches, including popular models from the Forerunner and Fenix lines. This glitch, which causes devices to get stuck in a bootloop displaying only a blue triangle, has been linked to issues with a recently updated GPE.bin file.

This persistent problem has emerged despite Garmin’s numerous updates throughout the year, aimed at fixing bugs and enhancing functionality across its smartwatch portfolio. Even the high-end models like the Enduro 3 and the Fenix series, priced at nearly $1,000, are not immune. The bug appears to strike across various software versions, indicating that the fault is not isolated to any specific update or model.

Preliminary reports suggest that initiating a new GPD-related activity activates the malfunctioning GPE.bin file, leading to crashes and the infamous bootloop scenario. Fortunately, Garmin has acknowledged the issue and is currently working on a solution that will be implemented via server updates. In the meantime, the company advises users to try a basic workaround. This involves holding down the power button until the device powers off, then turning it back on and syncing it with either the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Express.

While users await a permanent fix, Garmin reassures the community that they are actively addressing the situation, and further updates will be provided as they become available. This approach aims to minimize disruption for users as Garmin seeks to enhance the reliability and experience of its advanced wearable technology.
