Garmin Teases August 25 Launch for New Rugged Smartwatches
Garmin is getting ready to reveal its next generation of wearables, and all signs point to a major rugged smartwatch launch before the end of August. The company has now confirmed a new “Play Harder” livestream event scheduled for August 25 at 11:00 UTC, raising expectations that fresh outdoor-focused Garmin watches are about to make their debut.
While Garmin has not officially named the devices it plans to announce, recent leaks have pointed to several possible models, including the Garmin Fenix 9, Fenix 9 Pro, and Enduro 4. These watches would likely target athletes, adventurers, endurance runners, hikers, swimmers, surfers, and outdoor users who need long battery life, durable materials, and advanced fitness tracking.
The teaser itself offers an important clue. Garmin’s promotional footage shows a surfer wearing a smartwatch in the ocean, suggesting that the upcoming device may be built for serious water exposure. That could mean stronger water resistance, improved durability in saltwater conditions, and features designed for marine sports or extreme outdoor activity.
Because of that, the launch seems more likely to focus on a new Fenix or Enduro model rather than a Forerunner device. The Fenix series is Garmin’s premium outdoor smartwatch family, known for its tough design, long battery life, mapping tools, advanced health metrics, and multisport tracking. If the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro are announced, they could serve as direct successors to the current Fenix 8 lineup. So far, there has been no clear sign of a new Fenix E model or the Enduro 4 appearing in the same early retail listing.
Garmin has not revealed how long the August 25 livestream will run. However, based on previous product announcements, the event could be fairly short, possibly lasting around 15 minutes. Even so, it may be one of the company’s most important wearable launches of the year if it introduces the next generation of Fenix smartwatches.
