Garmin Enhances Legacy Smartwatches with Comprehensive Bug Fix Updates

Garmin is rolling out its latest software update, System Software 20.22, for the Fenix 7 series and Tactix 7 smartwatches. This update comes after a brief lull in software development following the Fenix 8’s release. With this new update, Garmin aims to address lingering issues from previous updates, including glitches introduced by the recent System Software 20.16.

The company has been actively engaged in refining the functionality of its smartwatches, targeting bugs that have affected user experience. For instance, some users reported that external heart rate sensors were not connecting automatically during activities. This and similar issues have been resolved with System Software 20.22, which began its global rollout yesterday.

However, don’t expect the update to hit your device instantly. Garmin has confirmed that about 30% of eligible smartwatches have received the update notification so far. The remaining devices will receive it gradually, as usual with such updates.

The improvements brought by System Software 20.22 are noteworthy. It has fixed issues like BLE sensor name clearing, crashes during jump rope activities, problems with pairing headphones and CT10 devices, and more. It also resolves problems with grade updates and sensor pairing, and improves the automatic broadcasting of heart rate data.

Garmin remains committed to enhancing the user experience on its existing smartwatches by consistently tackling software bugs and providing better performance for its devices. Stay tuned for this update if you own an Enduro 2, Epix 2, Fenix 7, or Tactix 7 smartwatch.
