Free Bosch eBike Flow update adds smarter traction control, smoother pedaling, and new ride features
Bosch has released a free software update for its eBike Flow app, bringing a fresh set of upgrades designed to make compatible electric bikes safer, smoother, and more enjoyable to ride. Version 1.38 focuses on improving control in challenging conditions, reducing pedal play, and adding more useful information for riders during charging.
Bosch continues to be one of the leading names in the e-bike market, even as competition grows among brands developing increasingly powerful mid-drive motor systems. A major part of Bosch’s appeal is its connected e-bike ecosystem, which allows supported bikes to receive new features through software updates rather than relying only on hardware changes.
One of the biggest improvements in the eBike Flow app 1.38 update is the ability to adjust traction control. Similar to the system found in cars, Bosch’s e-bike traction control helps prevent the rear wheel from spinning when grip is limited. This can be especially useful when riding on gravel, wet pavement, muddy paths, or loose trails.
With the new update, riders can now choose how strongly the traction control system intervenes. There are three available levels, giving users more freedom to match the bike’s behavior to the terrain and their riding style. Those who prefer full manual control can also switch the feature off completely.
However, not every Bosch-powered e-bike will receive all of the new functions. Some older motor systems, including Active Line models, do not support certain features such as traction control. As a result, the update experience may vary depending on the bike’s motor generation and system compatibility.
Another important addition is the new Drivetrain Tensioner feature. This function is designed to reduce pedal free play by applying preload to the drivetrain. In simple terms, it helps minimize the short “dead zone” riders may feel before pedal power is transferred to the rear wheel.
For many e-bike riders, this could make starting off and accelerating feel more direct and refined. The result is a smoother, more connected pedaling experience, particularly in stop-and-go traffic or technical riding situations where quick response matters.
Because the more immediate pedal response may feel different at first, Bosch allows riders to customize the Drivetrain Tensioner settings. The feature can be adjusted or turned on and off separately for each riding mode, making it easier to create a setup that feels natural across different routes and conditions.
The update also adds improvements for riders who enjoy a sportier style. Bosch has upgraded its Trick Check feature, allowing users to track tricks such as wheelies. This adds a fun performance-focused element for those who like to experiment beyond everyday commuting or casual trail rides.
Charging information has been improved as well. With the latest update, Bosch displays will show the estimated remaining charging time while the e-bike is plugged in. This makes it easier for riders to plan their next trip and know when their battery will be ready. The only exception is the Intuvia 100 display, which does not support this charging-time feature.
Overall, Bosch eBike Flow app version 1.38 is a meaningful update for many e-bike owners. The improved traction control settings, drivetrain preload option, trick tracking, and clearer charging information all help make Bosch-powered electric bikes more capable and convenient.
For riders with compatible Bosch e-bike systems, this free update is worth installing. It brings practical improvements for safety, comfort, and everyday usability while showing how software continues to play a growing role in the future of electric bikes.
