Formlabs Unveils Affordable $699 Resin 3D Printer for At-Home Makers

Formlabs Studio 1 brings professional resin 3D printing to home creators for $699

Formlabs is making a bold move into the home 3D printing market with the launch of the Studio 1, a $699 resin 3D printer designed for hobbyists, designers, makers, and small workshops. Known for high-end professional resin printers that often cost several thousand dollars, the company is now offering a more accessible machine that brings advanced printing features to a much wider audience.

The Formlabs Studio 1 uses masked stereolithography, also known as MSLA, a resin 3D printing method that cures liquid resin with UV light through a display. This technology is popular for producing detailed prints with smooth surfaces, making it ideal for miniatures, prototypes, design models, functional parts, and creative projects.

One of the biggest highlights is its 35-micrometer pixel resolution, which should help deliver sharp detail and clean results. The printer also offers a 200 × 125 × 235 mm build volume, giving users enough space for larger models or multiple smaller parts in a single print run.

Formlabs says many parts can be completed in under two hours, making the Studio 1 a strong option for users who want faster turnaround times without stepping up to a far more expensive professional system.

The Studio 1 also includes automatic resin dispensing and heated resin handling, two features typically associated with more advanced machines. Automatic resin dispensing can reduce some of the manual work involved in preparing prints, while heated resin handling may help improve consistency during printing.

Another major change is material flexibility. Formlabs has often been known for a more controlled resin ecosystem, but the Studio 1 includes Open Material Mode. This allows users to work with third-party resins, giving creators more freedom to experiment with different materials, finishes, colors, and price points.

For users planning to keep the printer indoors, Formlabs is also emphasizing safety and low emissions. The Studio 1 has UL GREENGUARD Gold certification for low chemical emissions when used with Formlabs Alpha Resins and the optional VOC Extractor. That said, resin 3D printing still requires careful handling. Liquid resin is not something to treat casually, and users will still need gloves, ventilation, cleaning, curing, and proper disposal practices.

Alongside the printer, Formlabs is launching six new Alpha Resins starting at $29 per liter. This pricing could make ongoing printing more affordable for home users and small studios. The company is also offering the Form Studio Wash+Cure for $199, an optional accessory designed to handle the post-processing steps of washing and curing printed parts.

The Formlabs Studio 1 is available to order for $699, with shipping expected to begin on November 16, 2026.

With its lower price, automatic resin features, third-party material support, and compact professional-style workflow, the Studio 1 could become an appealing choice for anyone looking to enter resin 3D printing without spending thousands. It may not remove the messiness of resin printing entirely, but it does make high-quality resin printing feel far more approachable for home workshops and small creative spaces.
