First Look: Citizen’s Limited-Edition Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer Breaks Cover

Citizen Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer AV0104-06W Debuts as a Bold Eco-Drive 50th Anniversary Limited Edition

Citizen’s new limited-edition Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer AV0104-06W has surfaced in detailed studio images, giving watch fans a much closer look at one of the brand’s most striking anniversary releases. Created to celebrate 50 years of Citizen Eco-Drive, this model brings back the unmistakable “bullhead” Tsuno chronograph style with a larger, more dramatic case and a rich vintage-inspired design.

The new Tsuno Chrono is not simply a fresh color variant of an existing model. Citizen has given the watch a noticeably larger presence, with the case measuring 44.5 mm wide and 15.3 mm thick. That makes it much bigger than the current Classic Tsuno Chrono, which comes in at 38 mm wide and 11.7 mm thick. On paper, the jump sounds substantial, but the design appears carefully balanced thanks to the layered case construction and strong visual contrast.

The watch features a tall polished gold bezel sitting above a brushed stainless steel mid-case. Polished chamfers along the sides add a refined edge, while the gold chronograph pushers at the 12 o’clock position match the bezel and top crown. This classic bullhead layout is one of the key elements that gives the Tsuno Chrono its identity. A second crown is positioned lower on the right side of the case and is used for the alarm function.

Under the domed sapphire crystal, the dial is one of the watch’s biggest talking points. Rather than appearing flat, it has the look of a layered instrument panel, fitting for a racing-inspired chronograph. The left side of the dial carries the power reserve display, marked with Full and Charge indicators. A running seconds sub-dial sits at the bottom, while the chronograph counters are positioned at the top and right. There is also a small On/Off indicator for the alarm function.

The deep green dial adds to the watch’s appeal. In low light, it can appear almost black, but brighter lighting reveals its rich green tone. A gold tachymeter ring surrounds the dial, tying the layout together and strengthening the retro motorsport feel. Combined with the gold accents, the result is a watch that feels both vintage and modern.

Inside the AV0104-06W is Citizen’s Caliber E210, a movement that gives this anniversary model more than just visual appeal. The chronograph reset mechanism works in a way that resembles a mechanical chronograph, using a hammer and heart cam system to snap the hands back to zero. This means the reset action feels more traditional than a typical electronically controlled chronograph hand returning by a smooth sweep.

The Caliber E210 is also notable for its complexity and longevity. It uses more than 200 components and has reportedly remained structurally unchanged for over two decades. That gives the new Tsuno Chrono a strong technical foundation beneath its bold exterior. Since it is an Eco-Drive watch, it is powered by light, reducing the need for regular battery changes and reinforcing Citizen’s long-running focus on practical everyday reliability.

Citizen has placed this retro-styled anniversary chronograph within the Promaster family, a choice that makes sense when considering the movement’s durability and functional design. While the watch clearly leans into heritage styling, it still carries the tool-watch character associated with the Promaster line.

The Citizen Promaster Tsuno Chrono Racer AV0104-06W will be limited to 5,000 pieces. It is priced at ¥187,000 and is scheduled to go on sale in Japan from September 10.

With its oversized bullhead case, gold-accented design, layered green dial, Eco-Drive technology, alarm function, and mechanically inspired chronograph reset, the AV0104-06W stands out as one of Citizen’s most memorable 50th anniversary Eco-Drive releases. For collectors and fans of vintage-style chronographs, this limited-edition Tsuno Chrono is shaping up to be a highly desirable model.
