Citizen Revives 1970s Flair with New Classic Tsuno Chronographs

Citizen has expanded its Australian lineup with two fresh Classic Tsuno Chronograph watches that channel a fan-favorite look from the brand’s archives. Inspired by Citizen’s 1973 “Bullhead” design, the new releases bring back the distinctive Tsuno silhouette—most notably the top-mounted chronograph pushers and the sporty, integrated bracelet style—while using a modern quartz movement to keep the package slim and easy to wear.

The two new references are the Citizen Classic Tsuno Chronograph AN3700-89Z and AN3660-73X. Both are built around Citizen’s 0510 quartz chronograph caliber, offering a 12-hour stopwatch and a date display. The dials follow a classic chronograph layout with three sub-dials, and there’s a tachymeter scale printed on the chapter ring for timing and speed calculations—another detail that reinforces the vintage racing vibe many collectors love about 1970s chronographs.

Color is the main differentiator between the two models, and Citizen leans all the way into retro personality here. The AN3700-89Z comes with a burnt orange dial paired with contrasting silver sub-dials, delivering a more traditional throwback look that feels right at home with the Bullhead inspiration. The AN3660-73X takes a bolder approach, combining a green dial with orange chronograph accents and a darker bezel for a sportier, higher-contrast aesthetic. On both watches, applied hour markers and baton-style hands help maintain everyday legibility despite the vibrant color palettes.

In terms of sizing, Citizen has kept these watches wearable and true to the era. Each model uses a 38 mm stainless steel case with a brushed finish that complements the 1970s-inspired profile. The orange AN3700-89Z is listed at approximately 10.8 mm thick, while the green AN3660-73X is about 11.7 mm thick. Both watches are fitted with mineral crystal and come rated to 50 meters of water resistance (5 bar), which should be sufficient for daily wear and occasional splashes.

Pricing in Australia is set at 575 AUD (about $410) for the AN3700-89Z and 550 AUD (about $392) for the AN3660-73X. Both models include a five-year limited warranty.

While many people immediately associate Citizen with its Eco-Drive solar technology, these Classic Tsuno Chronograph releases stick with a standard quartz setup. That choice helps preserve relatively slim case proportions, even if some enthusiasts were hoping for a light-powered option. Either way, the result is a pair of vintage-inspired Citizen quartz chronographs that put the Bullhead-style Tsuno design back on the wrist in an accessible, modern format.
