Final Fantasy Resonance Sets the Stage for an October 22 Debut

Final Fantasy Resonance brings HD-2D fantasy to PC and consoles on October 22

Final Fantasy Resonance is set to launch on October 22, 2026, bringing a fresh HD-2D take on the beloved RPG series to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Developed by Square Enix alongside Lancarse, the game marks a major milestone as the first Final Fantasy title built in the striking HD-2D visual style.

The game reimagines the first story arc of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius as a standalone turn-based RPG. Set in the world of Lapis, Final Fantasy Resonance follows Rain, the commander of an airship squadron from the kingdom of Grandshelt. His journey begins after the Earth Crystal is shattered, pushing him into a mission to protect the world’s remaining crystals from destruction.

A free demo has already been available since early September, giving players an early look at the opening chapter. The demo covers the beginning of the game through the end of Chapter 1 and is expected to take around three to five hours to complete. Even better, save data from the demo can be transferred to the full version, allowing players to continue their adventure without starting over.

Final Fantasy Resonance blends nostalgic pixel-inspired presentation with modern lighting, depth, and cinematic effects. Its HD-2D style gives the world of Lapis a dramatic new identity, combining classic role-playing charm with a polished visual approach designed for current hardware.

Combat takes a turn-based approach, but it does not use the traditional Active Time Battle system. Instead, battles rely on a turn-order timeline, giving players a clear view of upcoming actions and more control over strategy. Players will need to exploit enemy weaknesses, stagger opponents, and create openings for additional turns.

One of the game’s key mechanics is the use of Visions. These crystallized essences represent legendary characters, including familiar names such as Cloud and Tidus. Players can discover Visions throughout the world and equip them to party members, adding new layers of customization and strategy. When used effectively, they can help trigger powerful Resonance attacks that may turn the tide of battle.

The latest trailer also confirmed that Sephiroth will appear in Final Fantasy Resonance as a special challenge encounter. Players who manage to seek him out and defeat him can earn a unique reward, making the legendary villain one of the game’s most exciting optional battles.

Music will also play a major role in the experience. Composer Noriyasu Agematsu created the soundtrack, which features 120 tracks in total. Of those, 33 are brand-new compositions, while others draw from the musical legacy of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius. A four-CD original soundtrack release is scheduled for October 28 in Japan.

On PC, Final Fantasy Resonance will require a 64-bit version of Windows 11, DirectX 12, 8GB of RAM, and 15GB of storage. The recommended settings target 1080p gameplay at 60 frames per second on the highest preset. Suggested hardware includes an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 5 2500X paired with a GeForce GTX 1650, Radeon RX 5500 XT, or Intel Arc A580. A lower minimum specification will support 30 frames per second on Low settings.

The PC version is also verified for Steam Deck, making it a portable-friendly option for players who want to experience the adventure on the go. The game will use Denuvo DRM on PC.

With its HD-2D art style, classic turn-based combat, Vision system, save-transfer demo, and appearances from iconic Final Fantasy characters, Final Fantasy Resonance is shaping up to be one of the most notable RPG releases of October 2026. For longtime fans and newcomers alike, it offers a chance to explore the world of Lapis in a completely new way.
