Citizen brings back its sailing-watch legacy with four new Promaster Wave Tracker models
Citizen is leaning into its long history of purpose-built yacht timers with the launch of four new Promaster Wave Tracker watches. Inspired by the spirit of the 1985 Sporte Windjack, a distinctive digital sailing watch designed for competitive yachting, the new lineup blends retro maritime functionality with modern materials, solar power, and serious water-ready performance.
The Citizen Promaster Wave Tracker collection includes four models, each with its own personality. The JV3000-13E is the boldest option, pairing a bright orange urethane strap with a matching orange bezel for a high-visibility, sporty look. The JV3001-53E takes a more traditional route with a stainless steel bracelet, black dial, and black bezel. For those who prefer a dressier nautical style, the JV3002-51E features a gold-tone case and bracelet with a green-and-black bezel. Rounding out the range is the JV3006-50L, which offers a deep blue dial and a blue-and-black bezel on a stainless steel bracelet.
All four Citizen Promaster Wave Tracker watches are built around rugged 42.4mm stainless steel cases and feature a hybrid analog-digital display designed for fast reading in demanding conditions. At 12 o’clock, a high-definition MIP digital screen displays key sailing and outdoor information, including tide graphs, moon phase data, and other essential readouts. At 6 o’clock, an analog mode-selection subdial gives the watch a distinctive technical look while keeping functions easy to access.
The models also include a bidirectional rotating bezel and an inner ring that can be used as a sailing compass tool. This setup helps sailors estimate azimuth angles and determine points of sail based on wind direction, making the watches more than just stylish marine-inspired accessories.
Inside the new Promaster Wave Tracker lineup is Citizen’s Eco-Drive Caliber U812 movement. Because it runs on light, users do not need to worry about regular battery changes, a major advantage for anyone who wants a reliable watch for outdoor and marine use.
The feature list is where these watches truly stand out as yacht timers. A dedicated RACE mode automatically starts the stopwatch once the countdown timer finishes, making it especially useful for sailing starts. The watches also offer tide graph data for 203 global locations, sunrise and sunset times, moon phase information, and a 1/100-second chronograph.
Citizen has also equipped the collection with luminous hands and markers for improved visibility in low-light conditions. The dials are protected by anti-reflective sapphire crystal, while 200 meters of water resistance gives the watches the durability expected from the Promaster series.
Pricing starts at $750, or ¥126,500, for the orange-strap JV3000-13E. The stainless steel JV3001-53E and blue-dial JV3006-50L are priced at $830, or ¥137,500. The gold-tone JV3002-51E sits at the top of the range at $930, or ¥154,000.
The full Citizen Promaster Wave Tracker collection is expected to launch in the United States and Japan in June, with availability in the United Kingdom and Europe likely to follow later. For sailing enthusiasts, outdoor adventurers, and collectors of modern digital-analog tool watches, Citizen’s latest Promaster Wave Tracker models offer a compelling mix of heritage, functionality, and bold nautical design.
