Citizen Unveils Three New AW188 Watches Featuring Striking Textured Dials

Citizen has expanded its Eco-Drive lineup in Europe with three fresh AW188 variants that put the spotlight on textured, color-rich dials and everyday-wear specs. The new releases include the Citizen AW1880-55X, AW1881-52L, and AW1889-00E, each built around the same core design but differentiated by dial color, bezel styling, and strap choice.

All three models are based on the Citizen AW188 platform and share a 43 mm case size, giving them a confident, modern presence on the wrist. The standout visual feature is the dial finish: a vertical brushstroke-style texture that adds depth and movement as it catches the light, making these watches look more premium than a flat, standard dial.

The AW1889-00E leans into a stealthy, sporty aesthetic. It pairs a black textured dial with a black fixed bezel and a wavy urethane strap. To keep the look balanced, Citizen adds a silver-tone stainless steel case and silver accents on the dial, creating a sharp contrast that improves legibility while maintaining the all-black vibe.

For those who prefer a more classic bracelet style, Citizen is also offering two metallic options. The AW1880-55X features a green dial and matching green bezel, while the AW1881-52L delivers a bold blue dial with a blue bezel. Both versions come with a silver-tone stainless steel case and a matching metal strap, aiming for a versatile look that works just as well with casual outfits as it does with office wear.

Under the hood, these watches run on Citizen’s J810-00M Eco-Drive caliber, a light-powered quartz movement designed for convenience and reliability. With a power reserve of up to 240 days, the watch can keep running for months after a full charge. It also offers strong everyday accuracy, rated at within 15 seconds per month. The display is straightforward and practical, with a three-hand layout (hours, minutes, seconds) plus a simple date window.

Durability is also part of the package. Each model offers 10 bar water resistance, which typically suits day-to-day use and activities like swimming, adding to the AW188’s positioning as a dependable daily watch rather than a delicate accessory.

Pricing in the EU places these models in an accessible range for an Eco-Drive watch with a distinctive dial finish. The Citizen AW1889-00E is listed at €189.00, though it’s currently unavailable to buy; shoppers can sign up for email notifications to be alerted when stock returns. The AW1880-55X and AW1881-52L are priced at €199.00 each and are available for purchase now in the EU.

With three different personalities—black and sporty on urethane, or green and blue on stainless steel—Citizen’s new AW188 releases give buyers an easy way to choose a look that fits their style while keeping the proven benefits of Eco-Drive: long power reserve, low maintenance, and reliable timekeeping.
