Citizen CA0897-04H Nighthawk Eco-Drive arrives with a stealthy grey tactical look
Citizen has introduced a new addition to its popular Nighthawk lineup: the Citizen CA0897-04H. This latest model gives the long-running pilot-inspired chronograph a fresh grey-on-grey design, pairing a 42 mm stainless steel case with a matching grey nylon strap for a more rugged and understated appearance.
The Nighthawk series has been a familiar name in Citizen’s Promaster collection for decades, known for its aviation-inspired styling and practical tool-watch features. The design language takes cues from military helicopter cockpit instruments, giving the watch a purposeful, technical feel without making it look overly complicated.
With the CA0897-04H, Citizen keeps the core Nighthawk formula intact while changing the overall personality of the watch. Instead of the darker black-coated look seen on several recent Nighthawk models, this version uses a grey-toned stainless steel case. The matching grey dial, subdials, and nylon strap give it a tactical style that feels closer to a field watch than a flashy pilot chronograph.
The watch is powered by Citizen’s B612 Eco-Drive movement. This solar-powered calibre can charge from natural or artificial light, meaning owners do not need to worry about regular battery replacements. It includes a 1/5-second chronograph that can measure up to 60 minutes, a date display, and a dual-time 12/24-hour function.
Citizen has also equipped the CA0897-04H with features expected from the Nighthawk range, including an inner rotating tachymeter bezel, a screw-down crown, and 200-meter water resistance. That level of water resistance makes it more than just a casual daily watch, giving it enough durability for travel, outdoor use, and everyday wear.
At 42 mm, the case size should appeal to buyers who want a modern pilot-style chronograph with wrist presence, but without going into oversized territory. The nylon strap also helps reinforce the watch’s practical character, making it lighter and more casual than bracelet-equipped versions.
The CA0897-04H appears to share its movement with the existing CA0890-54H, but the overall execution is noticeably different. While the bracelet model has a more traditional stainless steel look, the new nylon-strap version feels more muted, tactical, and adventure-ready.
Citizen has not confirmed official pricing for the CA0897-04H yet. However, similar Nighthawk Eco-Drive chronograph models typically sit around the mid-$300 range, so this grey nylon-strap version may land in a similar or slightly lower price bracket.
For buyers looking for a reliable solar-powered chronograph with aviation-inspired design, strong water resistance, and a stealthy grey finish, the Citizen CA0897-04H could become one of the more appealing Nighthawk variants in the lineup.
