China Sets Three World Records With 33,615-Drone Light Show Over Sichuan
China has pushed the limits of aerial entertainment once again with a breathtaking drone light show over Dujiangyan City in Sichuan province. The large-scale performance featured 33,615 drones flying in perfect coordination, creating a dazzling night-sky spectacle that earned three Guinness World Records.
The show, organized by Yufengzhe Technology, transformed the sky into a massive moving canvas. Thousands of illuminated drones rose together and shifted seamlessly into colorful formations, blending advanced engineering with Chinese cultural imagery. Spectators watched as the drones formed giant pandas, dreamlike floating islands, inspiring messages, and patterns inspired by Eastern star constellations.
The Sichuan drone show was not only visually impressive but also technically groundbreaking. It set a record for the highest number of drones used in a single performance. It also claimed the record for the most drones used to create one image. In addition, the synchronized fleet formed a mid-air LED mesh screen covering 148,561 square meters, making it the largest aerial LED mesh screen ever recorded.
Managing more than 33,000 drones in the air at the same time required exceptional precision. Each drone had to maintain its exact position while avoiding signal interference and collision risks. To make this possible, the team used a custom local network designed to keep communication delays under 20 milliseconds.
This ultra-low-latency system allowed the entire drone fleet to remain synchronized in real time. Even with strong wind gusts during the performance, the formations stayed stable and aligned, showing the reliability of the technology behind the display.
Drone light shows have become increasingly popular as a safer, cleaner, and more flexible alternative to traditional fireworks. Unlike fireworks, drones can be programmed to create detailed moving images, words, symbols, and animated scenes. The record-breaking Sichuan display highlights how fast this technology is advancing and how it can be used for entertainment, tourism, cultural events, and major public celebrations.
With 33,615 drones lighting up the night sky, the Dujiangyan City performance stands as one of the most ambitious drone shows ever produced. It also reinforces China’s growing role in large-scale drone technology, aerial displays, and next-generation visual entertainment.
